It’s that time of year again. Somewhere in between the bustle of the holidays and flurry of year-end celebrations is the promise of a new year and a fresh start. But before drawing up new goals, here’s how Qualcomm Snapdragon tackled its resolutions in 2015.
If you want to lead the field, you can’t rest on your laurels. In that spirit, Qualcomm Technologies introduced the world to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor during Mobile World Congress 2015. And then started introducing all the amazing features you can look forward to.
One of our most popular posts was the announcement that the Snapdragon 820 will feature breakthrough LTE and Wi-Fi technologies by integrating the X12 LTE modem. And just last month, we demonstrated the Snapdragon 820 for the first time in New York City, showcasing its ability to create immersive experiences through sharper images, ultra-fast performance, strengthened security, and longer battery life. All in all, the 820 is not only a more versatile chip but also a more efficient one, using 30 percent less power than previous generations.
With drones making headlines in 2015, Qualcomm Technologies made news by expanding its horizons with Qualcomm Snapdragon Flight.
Announced at this year’s Qualcomm: Accelerating Robotics event, Snapdragon Flight is a development platform designed to help build the next generation of consumer drones and robots. Based on the powerful Snapdragon 801 processor, the platform is engineered to provide all the hardware and software resources needed to build advanced drones that are smaller, lighter, safer, and more cost and energy-efficient.
As smartphones upgrade, so do the demands on their batteries. But who wants to wait around to recharge? Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 is designed to refuel devices up to four times faster than conventional charging. Not only is it twice as fast as Quick Charge 1.0, it’s also 38 percent more efficient than Quick Charge 2.0.
But speed is only part of the story. Quick Charge 3.0 is 100 percent backward-compatible and will be available on next-generation charging accessories, as well as some of the newest Snapdragon processors, including the 820. So if you’re planning on upgrading your phone or tablet in 2016, there’s a good chance it will feature Quick Charge 3.0 technology.
It’s never been easier to stay connected with friends, and this year, Snapdragon processors continued to play a vital role in making phones that are smart, aware, and connected. In July, OnePlus announced the OnePlus 2—a sleek, minimalistic smartphone powered by the Snapdragon 810 processor. That same month, Motorola launched three new Snapdragon-powered phones (including the Moto G and Moto X Pure Edition) and then added the Droid Turbo.
This fall saw even more phones join the Snapdragon family, including Sony’s flagship Xperia Z5 series, Microsoft’s Lumia 950 and 950XL, along with the Nexus 5X and 6P from Google.

This year, Snapdragon branched out to hardware developers with the DragonBoard 410c. Announced in March, the DragonBoard 410c is the first development board based on the Snapdragon 410 processor. The credit-card-size board packs advanced processing power, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth connectivity, and GPS.
Made for makers, DragonBoard 410c made its global debut in May at Maker Faire 2015 and is perfect for embedded computing and building next-generation Internet of Things (IoT) products.
