Qualcomm Quick Charge 1.0: Less Time Charging, More Time Doing
Feb 14, 2013
Qualcomm products mentioned within this post are offered by Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. and/or its subsidiaries.
Is your new phone charging much faster than your old one? It’s not your imagination, it’s by design. Your new phone or tablet could have new Qualcomm technology that speeds up charging so you can pick up your mobile device and go.
Usually when we talk about Qualcomm technology, we explain how it can delay your need for a battery charger. We would tell you how the Snapdragon processor is designed to consume very little power, and that a smartphone or tablet with a Snapdragon processor is designed to work more efficiently, reducing the need to recharge as frequently.
Last week at HTC’s Frequencies event, our Chief Marketing Officer Anand Chandrasekher spoke with bloggers about a little-known Qualcomm technology which is designed to dramatically decrease the time it takes to charge the battery in a mobile device. We call this rapid charging technology “Quick Charge 1.0.” (Qualcomm obtained this technology through the acquisition of Summit Microelectronics in June of last year. Full press release here.)
A phone with Qualcomm Quick Charge 1.0 can charge up to 40% faster than older phones. A phone without Quick Charge 1.0 could be stuck plugged in charging for more than four hours. With Quick Charge 1.0, the same phone can reach its full charge in three hours or less. The less time you spend charging your mobile device, the more time you get to use it; your mobile device becomes truly mobile. Quick Charge 1.0 makes all this is available to the user with existing USB charging accessories—no new cables and wall chargers to buy.
Quick Charge 1.0 is offered to our customers as an integrated solution (as part of the PMIC, or power management integrated circuit) and a standalone solution that interfaces to the USB connector. Any phone or tablet’s charging port can be enabled with Quick Charge.
Qualcomm Quick Charge 1.0 is available today in more than 70 Snapdragon-based devices including the Droid DNA by HTC, Samsung Galaxy S III, Nokia Lumia 920, Vodafone Smart ultra 6, Asus Padfone and LG Nexus 4. Below is a list of some of the commercial Snapdragon devices that feature Quick Charge 1.0. Check out the Snapdragon device finder to view the full breadth of devices and features powered by Snapdragon and come back next week for exciting news on the newest advancement in fast charging technology. Qualcomm Quick Charge is a product of Qualcomm Technologies, Inc.
