Perks – some jobs have them, and at Qualcomm Technologies, we interns got the ultimate technology perks. This summer I tested out the Samsung Galaxy Book Go 5G (Go 5G) with Snapdragon technology. This laptop is the trifecta of flexibility, freedom, and connectivity — letting me go more places, while staying connected with fast 5G connectivity.
Here is how my summer-long test drive went with best-in-class-technology in hand. (Sadly, the features I’m about to include in my review are what I’m going to miss this fall, when I return to school for my senior year of undergrad.)
One of my intern projects was to film, edit, and produce a product highlight video for a Snapdragon back-to-school social media campaign. I was given the Go 5G to do it all. The project was enticing — and as a lover of videography and storytelling, Snapdragon allowed my creativity to soar.
The Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 Compute Platform in the Go 5G enables super-fast cellular connectivity, bringing premium mobile features into a laptop PC. Superior internet access meant I had more film location choices, which allowed me to unleash the creative possibilities... and it made the project more fun.
I’m all in for any chance to work outside, especially during the summer. And thanks to the Go 5G with Snapdragon, the world was my oyster-office. With cellular providing always-on (yes, really – always) connected performance, I was productive throughout the day, regardless of location.
On campus at school, my personal laptop with Wi-Fi had connectivity issues at the pool patio, so I definitely could not finish homework by the water. Yet I could easily alleviate this problem with the Go 5G and Snapdragon. I could attend online classes and work on assignments anywhere I wanted to go or needed to be, without worrying about connectivity issues.
An unexpected feature I enjoyed was noise suppression thanks to the integrated Qualcomm Aqstic audio technology and Qualcomm cVc Echo Cancelling and Noise Suppression (ECNS).
At school this would be useful because I live on the Arizona State University (ASU) Downtown Phoenix campus. There is an abundance of construction near my apartment building causing noisy interruptions.
With cVc ECNS in the Go 5G, I would not have to worry about disturbances during class or when video conferencing. I could go about my day without the extra interference taking me out of my lecture and could work online wherever I need to be, regardless of any nearby noise.
An unsung hero of the Snapdragon platform is that it’s so energy efficient it can be fan-less*, meaning an overall cooler and quieter PC experience. I never had to worry about the Go 5G getting too hot or disrupting my thoughts with a ceaselessly droning fan.
During lectures, people overwork their laptops (maybe playing a game instead of paying attention?), and in turn the entire lecture is drowned out by computer fans. This is not only distracting for the laptop users, but also for the students around them. I know from experience that at times it’s difficult to focus during long classes and the constant hum of laptop fans only makes it that much harder.
The Snapdragon compute platform also keeps the Go 5G thin, making it a breeze to stay connected on the go. I like to keep my haul light when walking across campus, and the Go 5G’s sleek and slim body is perfect to put in any backpack, no matter how full.
Samsung’s laptop also comes with a small and compact charger that is easy to store. Fortunately, I rarely had to use the charger, as the Snapdragon platform provided superior battery life of up to 18 hours. Forgot your charger? No worries — the Snapdragon platform has optimal battery life.
Now that my summer internship at Qualcomm Technologies is over, I’m heading back to ASU. Although I’m sad to leave my Go 5G behind, at least now I know what I want in a laptop.
If you’re gearing for back-to-school, the Samsung Galaxy Book Go 5G enabled by the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 Compute Platform is the way to go. It will help you stay connected and productive without interruption, and as you just read... that’s just the start.
* Energy efficiency allows the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 Compute Platform to consume less power, thereby generating less heat and removing the requirement for a fan.
Battery life varies significantly based on settings, usage, and other factors.
