The Nexus 6 by Google: Android Lollipop powered by a Snapdragon 805 processor

Google has just announced the Nexus 6, the latest device in the company’s flagship line of smartphones.

Powered by a Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 805 processor with 3GB of RAM, the Nexus 6 will be the first smartphone to run on the next-generation of Android OS, the recently revealed Android 5.0 (Lollipop). Android Lollipop introduces a host of new features, such as lockscreen notifications, a new material design, and improved battery life.

The new device boasts a 5.96-inch crystal-clear QHD (2K) display with 493ppi, and supports smooth 4K Ultra HD capture and playback with a 13-megapixel rear camera. Because of the dual ISP inside the Snapdragon 805 processor, the Nexus 6 is designed to take sharper, higher resolution photos and adds in advanced post-processing features for low light conditions and ghost-free HDR. Plus, thanks to the Adreno™ 420 GPU integrated in the Snapdragon processor, users can expect advanced graphics and PC-class performance on the latest mobile games.

In addition to Android Lollipop’s improved power management, which claims to add up to 90 minutes to a device's battery life, the Snapdragon 805 processor also includes Qualcomm® Quick Charge™ 2.0 technology. With Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0, Google claims you can charge the Nexus 6 back up to six hours of battery life in only 15 minutes.

The Nexus 6 will be available for preorder on October 29th, and in stores early November. It will cost $649 unlocked, or at a discounted price with a contract with any of the four major US carriers.
