Inside Nokia’s new Flagship Smartphone -- The Nokia Lumia 920

The Nokia Lumia 820

Earlier today Nokia held a press conference in New York City to unveil the latest in their line of Lumia smartphones – The Lumia 820 and flagship Lumia 920. At the core of these handsets is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon™ S4 processor. The performance powerhouse of the S4 processor allowed Nokia to outfit these phones with the flashiest hardware technology and bleeding edge Microsoft software. Below is a walkthrough of how the Snapdragon S4 is powering some of these features in the flagship Nokia Lumia 920.

Do more. Wait less.
Lumia 920 is loaded with the latest smartphone operating system from Microsoft – Windows Phone 8. The dual-core CPU and Adreno GPU inside the Snapdragon S4 are designed to enable the new OS and apps to run fast. Microsoft points out, “As reviewers have noted, Windows Phone (7) runs buttery smooth on phones with a single processor… Windows (8) provides support for multiple cores—so we’re ready for whatever hardware makers dream up.”

Less charging. More doing.
The Snapdragon S4 is designed to deliver great user experiences without compromising battery life. The CPUs in the processor use asynchronous technology, meaning cores can power up and down independently. If one core can do the job, the other turns off so power isn’t wasted and battery life is extended

4G LTE Internet Connection
The Snapdragon S4’s modem is designed for a blazing fast internet connection without compromising battery life. Many other smartphones have an application processor and a separate modem on two different chips. The Snapdragon S4 was the first commercially available processor to integrate a 4G LTE modem so it can use less power and deliver longer battery life. Plus, with 4G LTE download speeds can be up to 10x faster than 3G internet connections. The modem is also compatible with nearly all 2G and 3G networks around the world.

System-on-a-Chip
The Snapdragon S4 processor packs more than just a modem, CPU and GPU cores. There’s an Image Signal Processor (ISP) for the camera, DSP for audio, GPS, and much more. The tightly integrated system is designed to allow you to enjoy the Lumia 920’s HD display, HD media capture, location services and speedy apps with battery life to spare.
