Bloomberg and Cristiano Amon talk on-device AI
On June 22, Qualcomm Incorporated President & CEO, Cristiano Amon took the stage at Bloomberg Technology Summit, Bloomberg’s flagship tech conference. The Bloomberg team did a good job bringing in leaders and the brightest minds to talk about the mega-trends of the day. The event was hosted in San Francisco at a very cool venue called the SVN West. The vibe was cool and the key topic of conversation on and off the stage was artificial intelligence (AI) – and we were there for it!
Cristiano shared the stage with Ed Ludlow, Bloomberg anchor (and fellow Brit), who had some pointed questions for Cristiano focused around on-device AI. The conversation centered on the need for generative AI queries to live on the device alongside the cloud. You should watch the whole thing, and don’t miss the ControlNet demo showcasing how effective on-device AI can be!
Here are some of my favorite quotes from our fierce leader:
“If AI is going to get scale, you're going to see it running on devices with Snapdragon, whether it's in your phone, in your car, in your PC, and into other machines.”
“Generative AI opportunity is huge. All of the different applications… what we have seen in just the past six months is a revolution. A number of companies come up with use cases. Those use cases are going to happen on devices. That's going to be a great opportunity for Qualcomm.”
“Hybrid AI is what's happening right now. You provide a query to the model, the model will decide if it runs locally, or in the cloud. It's not just because you don't want to use the cloud. You want the fastest response on the device because of latency or contextual information.”
“In the future, you're talking to the car like you would in Knight Rider, you will give a very complex instruction for the car, “I want to go home… on the way home, I want to stop here… I want to order this… I want to pick it up.” And those things are going to be very related to the information you have. It doesn't mean that you're separating the car from the cloud, but you are using everything that is contextual rich for that moment.”
