Audio Technica is one of the world’s most recognized audio brands with a mission to deliver high-quality audio for everyone. Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. has been working together with Audio Technica for many years to provide Bluetooth audio platforms that help them bring premium sound experiences to life.

Today, wireless earbuds are the audio accessory of choice for consumers around the world, and are used daily at home, work, and the on go. To meet ever-changing consumer demands, the audio platforms and technologies that true wireless devices are powered by have had to evolve quickly to deliver even better-quality sound, smaller form factors, more complex use cases, and longer listening times.

Most recently, we’ve been working closely with Audio Technica to integrate our Snapdragon Sound technology into their latest ATH-TWX9 earbuds to deliver the ultimate wireless sound experience for listening to music, making calls, gaming, and watching videos. We recently spoke with Ryo Ouchi, Product Management Department at Audio Technica to talk about these exciting new earbuds, the decision to integrate Snapdragon Sound technologies, and what the future of sound might look like.

What inspired the new Audio Technica ATH-TWX9 wireless earphones?

Great sound is fundamentally important to everyday consumer experiences, and this was at the very core of our design philosophy when we set out to create the ATH-TWX9 earphones. Users of true wireless earbuds want to hear their music exactly as the artist intended it to be heard, be totally immersed in the latest game or video, and feel connected to colleagues, friends, and loved ones on voice and video calls.

The ATH-TWX9 earphones are designed to ensure that you are always getting the best performance from your music and calls — and even allow for customization by the user. They also integrate noise cancelling technology to help ensure an immersive listening experience, even in very noisy environments. And by integrating Snapdragon Sound technology, we have ensured that listeners can experience high-resolution music streaming, super-wideband voice for crystal clear calls, and low-latency for lag-free gaming and video consumption.

Why did you choose to add Snapdragon Sound to these earbuds?

The way wireless earbuds are being used today has changed dramatically over the past couple of years. Our customers want to be able to enjoy the best possible wireless sound quality for music, voice, and video — and want the experience to be robust and seamless. By combining their best audio and connectivity technologies, Qualcomm has developed Snapdragon Sound to help ensure consumers enjoy 24-bit 96kHz high res-music streaming, 32kHz super wideband voice call quality, and low-latency for gaming and watching videos. Snapdragon Sound also ensures a more robust connection even in very busy environments where there may be interference from other devices, providing a glitch-free audio experience.

Why have Audio Technica selected the Qualcomm QCC5141 Bluetooth SoC for this product?

We really value our collaboration with Qualcomm and have been integrating Qualcomm Bluetooth audio SoCs into our product portfolio for many years. They bring together industry-leading audio technologies, processing power, solid connectivity, and low-power consumption so we can deliver our promise of high-quality audio experiences for everyone.

What do you see as key trends for the future of wireless sound?

At Audio Technica, our company‘s mission is to deliver high-quality sound for all. Consumers are no longer using wireless audio devices to just listen to music, they’re now more actively engaged in voice calls, gaming, and watching video content. We expect this trend to continue, along with consumer expectations for high-quality, immersive, and seamless sound experiences.
