Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. is thrilled to be returning once again to NRF 2023, Retail's Big Show, as an exhibitor at Booth #1125. NRF continues to be the industry destination for innovation, thought leadership, and displays of the future of retail. In an ever-changing world, retail must focus on keeping up with technological advancement and the opportunities digital transformation introduces for retail Internet of Things (IoT).

While IoT is not new, vendors and retailers have access to hundreds of IoT devices available in their infrastructure. Frictionless customer experiences are at the core of the retail industry's payment system evolution. Payment providers are looking to make transactions seamless and adaptable to digital transformation processes, allowing payments to be integrated across all channels. Consumers are increasingly frustrated with waiting in lines to pay and are looking for a frictionless payment alternative. The use of IoT devices to enable frictionless payments — payments via voice assistants, scan-and-go devices, and even vehicles — can help increase customer experiences.

Our booth will highlight breakthrough demonstrations alongside our valued collaborators that focus on:

  • Enhancing customer experiences
  • Empowering store associates
  • Improving operational efficiencies

Qualcomm's IoT retail solutions help retail transform physical store environments to elevate customer shopping experiences to be more relevant and enjoyable. Devices such as smart carts can work with smart shelves to assist shoppers find what they are looking for quickly and easily. The payments market of using IoT devices is an emerging payment model, and new avenue for businesses to enable a secure and frictionless infrastructure for retail payments. When it comes time to check out, we help enable frictionless payment, from tap-to-pay, to biometric options.

Here are some of the interactive demonstrations focused on the shopper experiences that booth visitors can expect:

  • AI-enabled Smart Kiosk/Vending Machine with SandStar: In this demonstration, a connected smart kiosk automatically recognizes products picked up by customers through dynamic computer vision and AI technology for pure unattended-shopping and smart operational management.
  • Smart Cart: A seamless and frictionless checkout experience can be achieved with automation technology in a smart cart. In this use case, shoppers put products in their cart, and can pay as they go.
  • Qualcomm Voice Services with SoundHound: This demonstration for quick service restaurants will show an innovative voice experience, and aide in driving efficiencies for food ordering, by combining Qualcomm's voice solutions with SoundHound’s voice AI technology into a single solution for a natural, engaging, and seamless interaction.
  • IoT Payments – Scan and Go with RBC, Xenia, and GNC: Visitors can experience shopping in-store and paying all through a retailer’s application on their phone, from anywhere in a store.
  • Biometric Palm Payment – Arima, J.P. Morgan, NCR, Red Rock Biometrics: This demonstration shows the security around how a customer can use their palm to make a payment.
  • IoT Payments – Car Commerce: Anything that has connectivity can theoretically conduct payment transactions. Car commerce and the ability to connect to IoT devices enables innovative opportunities like paying for a parking kiosk from your car.

Qualcomm's retail solutions empower store associates with on-the-floor information to improve customer engagement, increase sales, and boost employee satisfaction. Smart scanners, digital shelf edge, and robotics help store associates with product stocking, shelf management, and pricing. Connected devices provide store associates with accurate, real-time information on inventory, pricing, and item location to better assist customers with their in-store experience.

Here are some of the interactive demonstrations focused on the in-store efficiencies for store associates that booth visitors can expect:

  • Package/Parcel Dimensioning with Zebra: Experience a demonstration of how retailers can streamline operations with visibility into parcel dimensions and space requirements, or instantly calculate shipping charges.
  • Contactless Shopping and Tap-to-Pay with Datalogic and Worldline: This demonstration shows the benefits of Soft POS with any Android device to accept NFC-based contactless payment from a card, phone, smartwatch, etc. Store owners can use an "off-the-shelf" Android mobile device (non-dedicated POS) to accept payment with Pin-On-Glass.

Our retail solutions can also enable real-time insights that maximize operational efficiencies and help save retailers time and money. Our edge AI processing supports retail applications to efficiently collect and analyze massive amounts of data, including video, to make real-time smart decisions that increase margin and save costs. End-to-end solutions maximize loss prevention, improve product stocking efficiency, and capture customer shopping preferences that help increase store efficiency while increasing store associate effectiveness.

  • Inventory Management with TDK and Modal AI: Leverage autonomous mobile robots (AMR) for shelf scanning to assist with retail operations to minimize out-of-stock and empty shelves.
  • Drone Delivery with TDK sensors: Understand how drones can provide efficient last-mile deliveries.
  • Retail Geolocation: An overview of Qualcomm Terrestrial Positioning Service (TPS) that the retail industry can use to improve operational efficiencies, reduce loss, and gain end-to-end visibility into a company's goods, assets, pallets, and containers through ubiquitous positioning.
  • Loss Prevention at Self-Checkout with Everseen: Experience how visual AI technology can help with loss prevention at self-checkout.
  • Audience Analysis with Retail Media with AWL and Thundercomm: Drive effective advertising that allows retailers to create new revenue streams, and easily visualize advertising effectiveness.
  • Shelf scanning by Gausium: A self-guided robot for scanning store shelves to aid in inventory management.

Visitors to the Qualcomm booth will experience how we are accelerating the digital transformation of retail in helping retailers save time and money, empower store associates, and elevate customer shopping experiences. We look forward to seeing you at NRF!
