If you’ve read recent OnQ blog posts with Qualcomm Incorporated President & CEO Cristiano Amon, you already understand that we’re moving quickly and boldly on our strategy of diversification.

Our technologies are evolving quickly, reaching far beyond smartphones — today, they are scaling into mobile computers, automobiles, IoT, and more. In addition to digitally transforming those industries, our breakthrough innovations in infrastructure are defining the architecture of a modern 5G network. In short, Qualcomm Technologies can no longer be defined only as a communications company serving one industry — we are a leading connected processor company for the connected intelligent edge, serving multiple new end markets and enabling the growth of the cloud-connected economy.

Today we announced completion of our acquisition of Cellwize, a global leader in mobile network automation and management solution. This acquisition allows us to accelerate Open RAN (Radio Access Network) global adoption, 5G private network deployments, and cloud-based cellular infrastructure innovation.

How the acquisition of Cellwize strengthens our offerings

As industries are looking to connect everything to the cloud, global mobile operators and private enterprises are deploying 5G networks. Qualcomm Technologies remains committed to accelerating the deployment of Open RAN, a key technology for the deployment of public and private 5G networks.

The addition of Cellwize’s leading cloud-native, multi-vendor RAN automation and management platform with Qualcomm Technologies’ industry-leading 5G RAN offerings will provide:

  • Leading RAN automation and management solution - Combined with Qualcomm Technologies’ 5G leadership, Cellwize’s RAN automation solution will help reduce network deployment time, bring 5G features faster to the market, simplify network management, and accelerate innovation at the connected intelligent edge.
  • Flexible RAN architecture solution - Cellwize’s globally deployed automation solution will help deliver unmatched network architecture flexibility with support for both traditional and modern virtualized, open networks as well as previous cellular generations to accelerate the digital transformation across industries.
  • Horizontal solution to enabling a multi-vendor ecosystem - With Cellwize’s solution support of Open RAN SMO (Services Management and Orchestration) interfaces, and todays’ industry interfaces, Qualcomm Technologies will help equip network operators with multi-vendor choice while ensuring interoperable automation across vendors.
  • Programmable solution to enabling an application ecosystem for differentiation and customization, and spurring innovation - The programmable RAN automation solution will allow Qualcomm Technologies’ customers and partners to differentiate and customize their offerings by segment and per customer, while delivering premium network performance. The solution also offers intelligence-driven RAN operations including a non-real-time radio intelligent controller (non-RT RIC), which will help drive the 5G connected intelligent edge.
  • Simplified and accelerated Private Network deployments by network operators and system integrators with RAN automation - Together with our RAN platforms, device offerings and ecosystem partners, this cloud-hosted solution will make it easier and faster to plan, deploy, monitor, optimize, and provide automated operations for Private Networks to reach the full potential of 5G. Operators and System Integrators alike will be able to harness these capabilities to streamline and accelerate the value of 5G Private Networks to end users and span verticals.

Qualcomm Technologies has been at the forefront of developing innovative infrastructure platforms that will develop the architecture of the modern network and power the digital transformation of industries. With Cellwize’s cloud-hosted management platform, we’re further accelerating the global adoption of Open RAN, reducing deployment time, automating operations, and increasing ease of use for customers across industries. With the time and cost savings our expanded portfolio now offers, the entire ecosystem — from developers and operators to OEMs and cloud integrators is free to innovate like never before.

Qualcomm can no longer be defined only as a communications company serving one industry — we are a leading connected processor company for the connected intelligent edge, serving multiple new end markets and enabling the growth of the cloud-connected economy.
