Introducing the Qualcomm Platform Solutions Ecosystem program
Ever wonder how your smartphone captures the best quality images? Or how your favorite shows stream flawlessly to your device with immersive sound and stunning colors? Or how an always-on voice assistant can wait for your command without draining the battery... or how your favorite app like Snapchat Lenses filters, captures, and shares your images at a smooth, high frame rate? The bottom line is that there is an enormous amount of technical complexity happening behind the scenes to enable the use cases and great user experiences on today’s mobile devices.
First and foremost, it requires different components working together seamlessly, for example, the reference BSP (bootstrap processor), custom hardware components, embedded software vendor solutions, 3rd party applications, and OEM customization all being well integrated and optimized to seamlessly leverage all the hardware and software capabilities the Qualcomm Snapdragon Mobile Platform.
As the use cases become more complex, especially with on-device AI, a system approach is needed to stitch the various hardware components and software solutions each delivered by different vendors into a semi-vertical solution that can be customized for an OEM without a lot of rework.
To help our partners more easily navigate these choices and ecosystems, we’ve created a new program – the Qualcomm Platform Solutions Ecosystem (PSE).
The Qualcomm PSE team has been working with an ecosystem of hardware vendors, software solution vendors, and application vendors. This is where Qualcomm Technologies’ platform system expertise meets the ecosystem’s domain expertise to bring together the end user cases and experiences on top of our foundational platform. Our focus is on solving problems related to integration, and KPIs (Key Performance Indicator) rather than specs and benchmarks.
The hardware component vendor partners offer OEMs with supply chain diversity of key components verified with Snapdragon platforms, such as memory, sensor, camera modules, etc. Software vendor partners integrate a broad portfolio of software solutions on Snapdragon platforms to help OEMs differentiate their products. Our joint pre-integration and optimization collaboration helps time to commercialization deployment of these solutions.
Furthermore, application vendors can take full advantage of underlying Snapdragon hardware and software instead of developing apps for the lowest common denominator hardware and struggle with fragmentation. This ecosystem helps bring new and innovative components and solutions on to our Snapdragon platform and creates a showcase for the technologies ahead of customer adoption.
The team works with partners throughout the life cycle of the engagement the right way – from technical due diligence and solution architecture, to business and legal agreements and engineering execution.
Working closely with technology product managers and the engineering teams, we ensure alignment of ecosystem needs with our Snapdragon Platform evolution. Through the experience of working with partners, we learn about features and KPI gaps in our own products and apply this knowledge back in our future products.
Qualcomm PSE covers a broad area of technologies such as camera, audio, video, display, machine learning, security, sensors, camera sensor/modules, DDR/storage memory, I/O, XO crystal, and more. The possibilities are virtually endless. If you are an independent software or hardware vendor who aspires to work with some of the leading OEMs around the world, the Qualcomm Platform Solutions Ecosystem team can help.
If you are an application vendor that wants to bring the next set of advanced features and better user experiences to your app, we would like to hear from you. We’re looking forward to working with you to bring the next set of innovations powered by Snapdragon.
