One year of Qualcomm AI Research at a glance [video]

Here’s what we’ve been working on in the field of machine learning

Qualcomm AI Research was started in May 2018, bringing together machine learning researchers across the organization. We wanted to harness the power of all the exciting work that was already taking place at Qualcomm Technologies on a wide range of topics from fundamental deep learning research to applied AI, with a strong focus on power efficient AI.

Under the guidance of Dr. Max Welling, professor at the University of Amsterdam and VP of Technology at Qualcomm Technologies Netherlands B.V., Qualcomm AI Research has focused on publishing research at the major AI conferences as well as collaborating with academia.

In the past year Qualcomm AI Research has had papers accepted at the most important scientific conferences in the AI field: NeurIPS, ICCV, ICLR and ICML among others. Our work in the fields of power efficiency, efficient learning, and personalization make it possible for billions of users around the world to have AI-enhanced experience on Qualcomm Technologiespowered devices. Among the areas of research that have garnered interest from the research community, a special mention goes to the general CNNs, which allow machines to gain a highly data efficient understanding of images. Check out our regularly updated list of published papers on the Qualcomm AI Research website.

Qualcomm AI Research is also collaborating with academic institutions around the world through the form of joint research or granting of scholarships. We collaborate with Duke University, UC Irvine, UCSD, the Doctoral training at Oxford University, and Imperial College. We are also celebrating our fifth year of joint research with the University of Amsterdam through the QUVA lab, a research lab specialized in deep vision.

The team at Qualcomm AI Research is made up of researchers and engineers inventing what is coming next in AI, enabling breakthrough innovations that will impact billions of people. We know that innovation takes time and requires challenging the status quo, so we encourage our employees to pursue new projects, take on ambitious challenges, and collaborate with colleagues across the company. If this sounds like something you would like to be a part of, we’re hiring. You can also find out more about our work culture here.
