Nokia 8: exceptional craftsmanship, camera, and performance powered by Snapdragon 835

Earlier this year, HMD Global reintroduced the popular Nokia brand in smart phones. Now comes the official debut of its flagship phone, the Nokia 8, which couples Nokia’s legendary craftsmanship with the breakthrough power of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 Mobile Platform. Following its long and iconic lineage of groundbreaking mobile devices, the phone includes impressive features like the innovative Dual-Sight mode, while maintaining Nokia phones’ reputation for impressive battery life, with the help of the premium Snapdragon mobile platform.

Stunning imagery

The Nokia 8 is made with imaging in mind. Its hardware and software is engineered to ensure that users never miss a moment, equipped with ZEISS optics designed to capture vivid photos and video in a variety of settings — even in low light — and at breakneck speeds. One exciting upgrade is the integrated Qualcomm Spectra 180 image signal processor (ISP).

The Qualcomm Spectra ISP’s 14-bit processing means users can take advantage of smooth optical zoom, swift dual-pixel autofocus, zero shutter lag, and lightning-fast capture speeds, almost as fast as their eyes can see. Combined with Electronic Image Stabilization 3.0, the Nokia 8 is designed to deliver beautiful, high-quality images and shake-free video, even when zoomed all the way in.

The Qualcomm Spectra ISP, which includes the Qualcomm Clear Sight framework, powers the Nokia 8’s unique Dual-Sight technology. With Dual-Sight, users can capture photos using the 13MP rear and front cameras simultaneously. The rear camera is equipped with color and monochrome sensors that adapt to the light of each unique setting. The front camera is super slim and includes phase detection technology. When combined, the result: a photo, or the ultimate selfie, with unparalleled depth that tells both sides of the story.

Powerful yet power-efficient

The Nokia 8 lives up to its power-efficient legacy thanks to the 10-nanometer Snapdragon 835 mobile platform. On average, the Snapdragon 835 uses around 25 percent less power than the previous generation platform.

The platform’s transistors are packed much closer together — designed to allow for lower battery consumption, less heat, and better performance than its predecessor. The Snapdragon 835’s Qualcomm Kryo 280 CPU is tasked with identifying and differentiating between the Nokia 8’s background and priority tasks. By categorizing the two, the CPU can speed up the performance for certain critical tasks that need more attention.

This power efficiency can also extend to the smartphone’s cameras. The Snapdragon 835 supports efficient, hybrid autofocus capabilities by combining phase-detection, laser, and contrast-detect autofocus features.
