Always Connected
An Always Connected experience requires an Internet connection that’s always available. Wi-Fi is a great way to connect, but its reach can be limited. With Wi-Fi only, your PC experience is restricted to places with a Wi-Fi connection — your home, work office, or favorite coffee shop.
On the other hand, built-in 4G LTE connectivity can give you the freedom to access the internet virtually anywhere, anytime, no matter where you are in the world, just like a smartphone.
Over 10 years ago, we pioneered the first Always Connected PC by releasing the world’s first cellular modem for laptops. This early modem featured CDMA2000 1x to deliver around 144 kilobits per second (kbps), or .144 megabits per second (Mbps). Since then we’ve launched even faster modems and over a thousand PCs have shipped with Qualcomm Technologies’ 3G/4G modems.
Currently, you can choose from more than 100 Always Connected PCs that feature Snapdragon X5 and X7 LTE modems. The Snapdragon X5 LTE modem supports download speeds up to 150 Mbps, and Snapdragon X7 supports up to 300 Mbps. You can find these modems in laptops from HP, Lenovo, Dell, Toshiba, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Microsoft and more.
Our Snapdragon 835 Mobile PC Platform features our industry leading Snapdragon X16 LTE modem. Some Windows PCs with Snapdragon can support Gigabit LTE, with download speeds up to 1 Gbps (1000 Mbps). That’s 3 – 7x faster than the average U.S. broadband speed. Bottom line: The Snapdragon X16 modem is designed to support an “Always Connected” Internet experience that’s faster than most Wi-Fi networks in homes and offices.
Currently there are nearly 200 LTE Advanced networks worldwide. In February, Telstra launched the world’s first Gigabit LTE network with 36 more network operators in the US, Europe, and Asia either deploying or trialing the technology. More Gigabit LTE networks are on the way.
