Qualcomm Technologies and Daimler team to “hop up” the connected cars of the future

Formula 1 racing is considered the pinnacle of automotive motor sports. Countless dollars go into R&D to create open-wheeled, freakishly-fast race cars whose drivers’ skills, decision making abilities and reflexes are similar to that of a jet fighter pilot. When Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. (QTI) signed on to be a sponsor of the Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One team, we knew we would be working with one of the most forward-thinking, technologically advanced factory racing teams ever (not to mention defending Formula 1 Constructors' World Champions).

Today in Monaco, ahead of the Grand Prix of Monaco, we announced our strategic collaboration with Daimler AG, parent group of Mercedes Benz. The first phase of our collaboration will focus on transforming future vehicles with mobile technologies that enhance in-car experiences and vehicle performance such as 3G/4G connectivity, wireless charging technology for in-vehicle use, and implementation of the Qualcomm Halo Wireless Electric Vehicle Charging (WEVC) technology. In addition, the companies are jointly assessing the application of QTI’s newly developed Automotive Solutions.

QTI has long been recognized as a trusted advisor and resource in the automotive industry—involved in 40 connected car programs with more than 15 OEMs globally. The company has been powering in-car connectivity for more than a decade, including nearly a decade of telematics programs with Daimler. Additionally, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 602A processor is gaining traction throughout the industry.
