On March 15, some of the fastest cars in the world will kick off the 2015 Formula 1 racing season. And for the first time, Qualcomm Incorporated subsidiary Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. will be a part of it.

We’re an official technology partner of the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team. And here’s the really cool part: together we’re going to develop new connected car technologies to make these amazing vehicles even better.

We’re working on vehicle reliability, operational and power efficiencies, and—of course—speed. Projects will include work on real-time data transmission, sensor networks and wireless charging integration. Our work with MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS will build on Qualcomm’s automotive history, which currently includes more than 40 initiatives with automakers and suppliers.

“We think there’s a huge opportunity. Formula 1 is one of the places where leading technology is developed,” Qualcomm President Derek Aberle said this week. “Several years later, you’ll see (that technology) show up in commercial vehicles.”
