Revealed: Circuit for Round 1 of the FIA Formula E Championship

FIA Formula E organizers today unveiled the course for the opening round of the all-electric car championship set to kick off September 13 in Beijing, China. The counterclockwise, 20-turn street circuit is 3.44km (2.13 miles) long and offers drivers two main straights, four chicanes and some tight, left-hand turns.

Awaiting final FIA Homologation, the track was designed by Rodrigo Nunes, who worked in close cooperation with the FIA, Formula E, the Republic of China Motor Sport Federation (FASC), the Olympic Park Committee, the Beijing Mayor, the Chinese Government and event organizer Team China Racing.

Seeing Formula E not only as a viable test bed for future automobile technologies and new mobile experiences, but also an opportunity to promote sustainable living and pollution reduction around the globe, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. became a Founding Technology Partner of FIA Formula E Championship. For the race series, Qualcomm is implementing its wireless electric vehicle charging system and new, connected fan experiences.

Beijing’s Formula E street circuit envelops some impressive cityscape, including the Beijing Olympic Stadium (a.k.a., the Bird Nest) and the Beijing National Aquatics Center.
