Keynote 2013 Consumer Electronics Show Highlights

Did you miss Qualcomm Chairman and CEO Dr. Paul Jacob’s keynote opening the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show – or did you just want to watch it again?

We’ve collected some highlights from the presentation here, starting with a big surprise from a big name.  Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, who previously held the opening keynote slot, bounded on stage to join Paul and show off some impressive new Windows devices.

During the presentation, we announced the upcoming Snapdragon 800 series processors, which deliver up to 75% better performance than their predecessors.  But we didn’t just talk about it – we showed what this dragon can do.

One of the biggest technologies coming out of this year’s CES is Ultra HD, which enables displays with four times the number of pixels of 1080p.    And one of the biggest names experimenting with 4K is director Guillermo del Toro, the driving force behind movies such as Hellboy and Pan’s Labyrinth.

NASCAR champ Brad Keselowski joined us to demonstrate a new AllJoyn-enabled app that delivers personalized race experiences to fans at home.  Using the app on their smart TV or tablet – or both – fans can follow individual drivers, listen to driver/pit crew audio chatter, view in-car video, and more.

Learning to read can be tough for children, so Sesame Workshop collaborated with Qualcomm to develop a Vuforia-enabled app that can see and identify words in the real world.  And who better to show it off than our favorite eight-foot feathered friend?

Star Trek fans eagerly awaiting the newest film in the franchise, Star Trek Into Darkness, can download a new app that uses sophisticated technologies to deliver a rich, personalized experience.  Actor Alice Eve told us more.

With Qualcomm Halo electric vehicle technology, charging your car is as easy as driving into a parking space.  There are no cables; no wires.  And if you’re going to show off an electric car at CES, it might as well be a nice one.
