Let’s Build Something Useful: The Next Gen of Wireless Health Apps

Before the introduction of Qualcomm’s 2net™ Platform, medical devices were siloed and biometric data was locked within proprietary systems and uniquely configured devices. The launch of Qualcomm Life’s cloud-based service liberated this data, creating new possibilities for end-to-end device connectivity.

Today, nearly every part of our health, from our vital signs to our diet, to our sleep patterns and activity levels, can be monitored by wireless sensors and is accessible from our smartphones via mHealth apps. If managed properly and leveraged effectively, biometric data has the ability to empower the patient to take charge of their own health and fitness.

To see wide consumer adoption of mHealth services and technologies, we need apps that make health information accessible, actionable and useful. We need solutions that can aggregate biometric data from multiple types of devices and sensors, process it in creative new ways and deliver it to the consumer in an engaging manner.

On August 15, 2012, Qualcomm Life is launching the 2net App SDK, a first-of-its-kind solution, to create a single, consolidated biometric data stream across different radio technologies, devices, apps and services. The SDK will offer app developers multiple ways of monetizing 2net within their consumer apps.

In conjunction with the SDK launch, Qualcomm Life is hosting the 2net App Developer Challenge to give developers the chance to create the best 2net-enabled applications. This competition begins on August 15 and runs until October 1. Three winners will be awarded cash prizes ranging from $5,000 to $20,000 and will be announced at the 3rd Annual Wireless Health Conference, hosted by the Wireless-Life Sciences Alliance (WLSA) on October 23. Check out QDevNet for more details.

I will be posting updates on the 2net App SDK and the cool apps that are developed here, so stay tuned!
