Asus and Panasonic Launch Devices Featuring Snapdragon S4 at MWC

Mobile World Congress 2012 spawned a horde of smartphones and tablets that pushed the boundaries of design and features. You’ve heard the rumblings of what’s built into some of them, including cameras with fast shutter and autofocus speeds, large screens with HD resolutions, 4G LTE for lightning-fast internet speeds, and audio that can rival your living room speakers. Many of these devices have one component in common. It’s the same one responsible for powering these cutting-edge features—a Snapdragon S4 processor. We told you last week about the HTC One XL and One S smartphones, and HTC was not alone in announcing devices with Snapdragon S4 processors.

Asus launched S4-equipped devices in both smartphone and tablet form factors. The Asus Padfone is unique 4.3-inch Smartphone that can be directly inserted into a 10-inch docking tablet. Think of it as two devices that share a single brain - which in this case is a Snapdragon S4 processor with 1.5Ghz dual-core CPUs. The company also launched the Transformer Pad Infinity 700, a more powerful and complete version than the previous Tranformer Prime that includes an S4 processor and fully-integrated 4G LTE. This 10-inch slate will also feature the highest resolution on a mobile display at 1,920-by-1200.

The Panasonic Eluga Power follows the path of big-screen phones, featuring an awe-inspiring 5-inch screen, with a 720p resolution. It can capture video at 1080p (30fps) and shoot 8MP photos. It also boasts an extensive wireless arsenal that includes Near Field Communication (NFC), which enables contact-less payment and data transfers—thanks to a Snapdragon S4 processor.

You can expect to see more smartphones and tablets featuring Snapdragon S4 processors in the upcoming months. Stay tuned.
