Rev. B is Commercial!

On Jan 13th 2010, RCR Wireless reported that Smart Telecom of Indonesia claimed the crown of “the world’s first operator to launch a commercial EV-DO Rev. B network” (http://tinyurl.com/y9nodd3).

While various other operators in Asia were making news with their commercial plans, Smart Telecom seemed to come from nowhere to score this win.

Smart Telecom is living up to its name and doing the “smart” thing by launching Multicarrier, the first phase of Rev. B, which requires only a software upgrade. Multicarrier provides 9.3 Mbps peak data rate (downlink) and tripled data rates for all users in the cell. As noted in the article, Smart also plans to up the rates to 14.7 Mbps toward the end of the year. Read about these as well as other benefits of Rev. B on our technology Web page at www.qualcomm.com/rev_b.

So, congratulations to Smart Telecom. And special kudos to Indonesia for “accelerating mobility.” Remember, Indonesia is also one of the very few emerging countries to have HSPA+.
