Anduril and Qualcomm Unveil BlueChip to Rebuild American Computer Manufacturing

Beginning with a U.S.-built laptop powered by the Snapdragon® X Series platform, BlueChip will establish the manufacturing capabilities and supplier base needed to bring computer production back to America.

The United States pioneered personal computing and continues to lead the world in designing advanced technology, but decades of offshoring have left America dependent on foreign manufacturers for the computers and components that power everything from personal devices to critical government infrastructure. This dependence creates a national security vulnerability. Conflict or disruptions to overseas supply chains could limit access to essential computing hardware and undermine America's ability to sustain production when it matters most.

Today, Anduril and Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. are unveiling BlueChip, a new product line dedicated to rebuilding American computer manufacturing. Beginning with a laptop designed and assembled in the United States, BlueChip will develop American-built computing hardware for America’s most critical industries—including government, defense, first responders, and public safety—and rebuild the suppliers, manufacturing processes, and expertise needed to produce these systems at scale.

BlueChip brings together Qualcomm Technologies’ expertise in high-performance, power-efficient computing and Anduril’s work to rebuild domestic computer manufacturing. San Diego-based Qualcomm Technologies will supply their Snapdragon X Series, providing the laptop’s core computing capabilities, including general-purpose processing, graphics, and on-device AI.

Anduril has already developed functional prototypes of the first BlueChip laptop and plans to begin taking orders in 2027. The engineering effort includes designing the enclosure for U.S. machining, developing battery and power management systems to accommodate existing American battery technology, and selecting metals that U.S. industry can produce and machine at scale. Anduril is also developing a bonding process to incorporate U.S.-made display glass. These are just some examples of the engineering work required to design computers for the realities of the American supply chain.

Building Computers in America

Components sourced from U.S. and allied-country suppliers account for more than 90% of the BlueChip prototypes’ component procurement cost. Anduril is working to expand domestic component production ahead of planned availability in 2027, with the long-term goal of building a fully domestic supply chain.

BlueChip laptops will be manufactured in the United States, with circuit board assembly planned for Anduril's Arsenal-1 facility in Ohio. Anduril is developing domestic production capabilities for enclosures, battery components, and other hardware while qualifying suppliers and preparing for production.

The United States has already invested billions of dollars in expanding domestic semiconductor production, but manufacturing complete computers also requires circuit boards, displays, batteries, and other components still largely produced overseas. Restoring domestic computer manufacturing requires rebuilding that broader industrial base.

BlueChip will take a phased approach, beginning with expanding domestic sourcing and manufacturing, progressing toward eliminating reliance on foreign suppliers, and ultimately establishing an end-to-end American supply chain. The designs, supplier relationships, and production processes developed for the first laptop will support additional BlueChip products, expanding America's ability to manufacture the computing hardware its industries depend on.
