Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. showcased its Wi-Fi 6 technology prowess with a landmark over-the-air demonstration of Wi-Fi 6E operation using 6Ghz spectrum, spanning the Qualcomm® FastConnect™ mobile connectivity subsystem and the Qualcomm® Networking Pro Series Wi-Fi Access Point platforms. Achieved using next generation commercial products this Wi-Fi 6E demonstration underscores Qualcomm Technologies’ readiness to extend its successful Wi-Fi 6 portfolio into the 6 GHz band for a transformative Wi-Fi 6E performance, pending regulatory approval. This new technology is designed to enable massive new wireless capacity for the next generation of high bandwidth wireless connectivity. By supporting numerous 160 MHz channels, advanced modulation techniques, and opportunity to extend highly differentiated end-to-end Wi-Fi 6 feature implementations, Qualcomm Technologies is primed to deliver powerful, reliable and immersive Wi-Fi 6E experiences for the next generation, supporting parallel evolution and leadership in the transition to 5G.
“Building on our deep technology expertise and industry-proven feature superiority, Qualcomm Technologies is again poised to usher in a new era of Wi-Fi performance and capability with the addition of 6 GHz spectrum, or Wi-Fi 6E,” said Rahul Patel, senior vice president and general manager, connectivity and networking, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. “Once the spectrum is allocated, Wi-Fi 6E is primed to solve for modern connectivity challenges and create new opportunities for the next generation of devices and experiences.”
Wi-Fi 6 Mobile Momentum
Today’s demonstration of Wi-Fi 6E readiness builds upon the significant adoption of commercially available Wi-Fi 6 devices based on the flagship Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 865 Mobile Platform. The latest FastConnect 6800 subsystem is capable of delivering a new class of Wi-Fi speed (approaching 1.8 Gbps), reliability and responsiveness, even in densely congested environments. The FastConnect 6800 subsystem reflects Qualcomm Technologies’ mobile expertise and continuing core R&D investment, extending beyond the minimum certification requirements. With support for hallmark features such as uplink and downlink MU-MIMO (supporting up to 8 stream scenarios), OFDMA and 1024 QAM extended across 2.4 and 5GHz bands, and unique latency reducing optimizations. The FastConnect 6800 subsystem addresses many of today’s most daunting mobile connectivity challenges and creates new opportunities. Extending our technology leadership into the 6GHz band can open the door for mobile speeds in excess of 3 Gbps with the goal of reliable and consistent performance and low latency for the next generation of devices and experiences.
Wi-Fi 6 Networking Infrastructure Momentum
Concurrent with Qualcomm Technologies’ mobile offering, the Qualcomm Networking Pro Series platforms offer technologically advanced and comprehensive Wi-Fi 6 implementations for networking infrastructure. Their configuration flexibility, powerful networking processing, and deterministic resource allocation through multi-user algorithms for OFDMA and MU-MIMO make the Qualcomm Networking Pro Series platforms extremely popular and widely deployed in more than 200 designs shipping or in development, the trend in support for 6GHz band will only accelerate. Commercially deployed products span enterprise, home, and, in many instances are paired with the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ X55 5G Modem RF-System, to constitute an unparalleled platform for next-generation Fixed Wireless Access for Broadband CPE.
