Qualcomm Powers Multiple Devices for HSDPA and WEDGE Launches by Cingular Wireless

Company's MSM6275 Solution Provides Seamless Transition to HSDPA with Backward EDGE Compatibility

Qualcomm Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), a leading developer and innovator of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) and other advanced wireless technologies, today announced the Company is actively supporting the world's first widespread High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) deployment, recently launched by Cingular Wireless in the United States on December 6, 2005. Qualcomm has been working for several months with leading device manufacturers to develop and validate multiple mobile devices for the HSDPA network. Data cards by Novatel Wireless and the AirCard® 860 by Sierra Wireless, powered by Qualcomm's Mobile Station Modem™ (MSM™) MSM6275™ chipset solution, were available for the rollout. Additional mobile handsets and other wireless devices based on the MSM6275 chipset capable of supporting data rates of up to 1.8 Mbps are expected to launch on Cingular's HSDPA and WCDMA/EDGE (WEDGE) networks in 2006. Wireless devices based on Qualcomm's MSM6280™ solution supporting data rates of up to 7.2 Mbps will follow.

"Our joint efforts to bring WCDMA to Cingular's wireless users have resulted in the world's first commercially available HSDPA devices," said Dr. Sanjay K. Jha, president of Qualcomm CDMA Technologies. "Based on the MSM6275 chipset, the mobile devices are backward compatible with EDGE and GPRS networks to offer Cingular's wireless subscribers not only a seamless transition as Cingular deploys more HSDPA networks , but also the ability to roam onto other networks around the world."

The MSM6275 solution for HSDPA and WCDMA networks is fully backward compatible with EDGE and GPRS standards, offering roaming capabilities in all countries where the networks have been deployed. The MSM6275 solution supports data rates of up to 1.8 Mbps and has been selected by more than 10 industry leaders for mobile handsets, data cards and other wireless devices. The MSM6280 also features compatibility with the HSDPA/WCDMA and EDGE/GPRS/GSM standards and supports data rates up to 7.2 Mbps.

Qualcomm's solutions support the Company's Launchpad™ suite of advanced multimedia, connectivity, position location, user interface and removable storage functionality, and the BREW® solution, which enables the download and monetization of advanced applications and content, allowing operators and OEMs to differentiate their products and services and increase revenues. Qualcomm's chipsets are also compatible with the Java™ runtime environment (J2ME™), which can be built entirely on the chipset as an extension to the BREW client.
