Qualcomm Showcases its Advanced Wireless Solutions at the 3G World Congress 2002

Qualcomm Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), pioneer and world leader of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) digital wireless technology, is showcasing its wide range of innovative products and advanced wireless solutions that are rapidly driving the migration and adoption of third-generation (3G) CDMA wireless services, during the 3G World Congress 2002, June 10-14, at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

"Commercially introduced in 1995, CDMA technology quickly became the world's fastest-growing wireless technologies," said Dr. Irwin M. Jacobs, chairman and CEO, Qualcomm. "There are currently more than 120 million CDMA subscribers worldwide. Additionally, 13 operators in six countries in Asia, North America and Latin America have launched 3G CDMA2000 1X wireless services, offering approximately 10 million subscribers an enhanced wireless experience. We are delighted to be here again at the 3G World Congress to have the opportunity to demonstrate that 3G is a reality and bringing tangible benefits to consumers, operators, manufacturers and developers."

CDMA mobile users are now enjoying many new features and applications available on a broad range of full-color phones and wireless devices, including camera phones; Video on Demand phones; Global Positioning System (GPS) and multimedia-enabled phones and devices; as well as Windows® CE devices with high-resolution color VGA screens. Enabled by Qualcomm's CDMA chipsets and system software, consumers have access to high-speed, affordable services and software applications, such as multi-player games, mapping and navigation, photo exchange, video such as nanny-cams, e-mail and Web browsing. These new devices, combined with true 3G performance, are opening the door for the creation of a broad array of products and services that deliver greater choice for consumers and enhance operators' ability to differentiate their products and services.

Some highlights of Qualcomm's show presence include:

  • Demonstrations of applications developed for the Binary Runtime Environment for Wireless™ (BREW™) platform

  • An opportunity to learn more about the Company's innovative QChat™ push-to-talk (PTT) software

  • Live voice and data calls using radioOne™ technology with the MSM6000™ and MSM6050™ chipsets
