John Major Appointed President and CEO of WirelessKnowledge, A Microsoft and Qualcomm Company

Qualcomm Inc. (Nasdaq "QCOM") and Microsoft Corp.(Nasdaq "MSFT") today announced the appointment of John Major as presidentand chief executive officer of the newly formed WirelessKnowledge, aMicrosoft and Qualcomm company. In his new position, Major will lead thedevelopment and delivery of wireless services and applications, based on anopen, end-to-end architecture that will shape the new generation ofwireless connectivity and information access.

"John Major is a recognized leader in the wireless industry, respected forhis expertise, strategic thinking and dynamic leadership," said Dr. IrwinM. Jacobs, chairman and chief executive officer for Qualcomm. "Hiscontributions at Qualcomm have made a significant impact on our wirelessinfrastructure business around the world. In his new role, John will drawupon his extensive wireless experience and industry savvy to power hisvision for the company's success."

Most recently, Major served as executive vice president of Qualcomm andpresident of its wireless infrastructure business. Before joining Qualcomm,he demonstrated more than 15 years of successful executive leadership atMotorola Inc., where he most recently served as senior vice president andstaff chief technical officer. In that role, he led the company's effort todevelop world-class excellence in software processes. Previously, he servedas senior vice president and general manager for Motorola's worldwidesystems group of the land mobile products sector. That team developedcomputer-based radio systems for public safety and industry users.

"WirelessKnowledge will spearhead the convergence of wireless, Internet andcomputing technologies to allow mobile devices to reliably access theInternet and drive the development and delivery of meaningful new wirelessapplications and services to enterprise, small businesses and consumersalike," Major said. Major serves on the board of directors executive committee for theTelecommunications Industry Association (TIA) and is vice chairman for theElectronics Industry Association (EIA). In addition, he serves as vicechairman of the board of directors for the Electromagnetic Energy Association.

Major earned bachelor's of science and master's of science degrees inmechanical engineering from the University of Rochester and the Universityof Illinois, respectively. He also holds a master's degree in businessadministration from Northwestern University and a law degree from LoyolaUniversity. In May 1995 Mr. Major received an honorary doctorate fromWestminster College.
