Qualcomm Forms Joint Research and Scholarship Programs with Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications

Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM) today announced that it will engage in a joint research program with Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT). The program will focus on Qualcomm's proprietary Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) technology. At a signing ceremony between Qualcomm and BUPT, Qualcomm also announced that it is sponsoring a scholarship for professors and students of BUPT studying CDMA technology.

"Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications is a prestigious university, well respected in the areas of telecommunications education and research and development projects," said Dr. Irwin Jacobs, chairman and CEO of Qualcomm. "This partnership is a value-added opportunity to collaborate on CDMA technology."

CDMA has gained worldwide acceptance by offering capacity, coverage and voice quality advantages over other wireless technologies. Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications is a major base for training qualified scientists and technicians in the fields of posts and telecommunications in China. In the 40 years since its founding, it has provided the various departments in China's posts and telecom sectors with nearly 40,000 graduates. Its academic disciplines and special fields of study cover several areas within communications. Combined with a strong teaching and research force, the university occupies a leading position among China's educational institutions.
