Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM) today announced that it has filed a complaint in the United States District Court in San Diego seeking a judicial determination that Qualcomm does not infringe three patents held by U.S. Philips Corporation. Qualcomm's complaint states that a dispute has arisen from Philips' contention that the three patents cover certain features of Qualcomm products compatible with the Telecommunication Industry Association's IS-95-A standard. Qualcomm denies that its products infringe any of the three patents and further asserts that the patents are invalid.
As Philips recently disclosed to the wireless trade media, the two companies are in discussions regarding the licensing of Qualcomm's CDMA patents. These discussions have not yet culminated in an agreement.
