Transportation Services Inc. Employs OmniTRACS System to Enhance Transportation of Automotive Parts

Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ:QCOM) announced that Transportation Services Inc. (TSI) has agreed to purchase 360 OmniTRACS® mobile communications units. Installation has been completed on the majority of these units. Detroit-based TSI specializes in the transportation of automotive parts and components for assembly in production facilities throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico.

"The bulk of our business is time-sensitive, so it was critical we purchase a system that provided the ability to obtain real-time information," stated John Begin, chief executive officer of TSI. "The OmniTRACS system enables us to accurately track our customers' shipments. JIT (Just-in-time) was invented by the auto industry. Now every industry uses this concept to reduce inventories and minimize warehousing activities. The OmniTRACS system will help us to better achieve our goals." After exploring competing systems, TSI chose the OmniTRACS system because it provides "the most sophisticated onboard equipment and a host of extremely useful companion products," Begin explained. "We also found the satellite-based OmniTRACS system to be more efficient and cost-effective than cellular."

"We are pleased that TSI views the OmniTRACS system as a vital tool for helping them to provide their customers with the most sophisticated and up-to-date services , such as JIT," said John Sarto, president of Qualcomm's OmniTRACS division. "We look forward to working with TSI to help them gain operational efficiencies and improve customer satisfaction."
