Qualcomm Dedicates New CDMA Manufacturing Facility for Infrastructure Equipment

In order to meet the growing worldwide demand for CDMA wireless infrastructure products, Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM) today announced the grand opening of its new, all-inclusive wireless infrastructure manufacturing facility, which was designed by Qualcomm from the ground up specifically for the purpose of configuring, testing and assembling Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) wireless infrastructure products.

"We built this facility in response to the worldwide demand for CDMA wireless infrastructure products," said Dr. Irwin Jacobs, chairman and CEO of Qualcomm. "Our goal with this manufacturing expansion is to meet the production level needs of our customers and deliver quality products in a timely and efficient manner."

"This facility underscores San Diego's continued importance as a telecommunications growth center and Qualcomm's vital role in leading the telecommunications revolution sweeping the world," said Rep. Brian Bilbray (R-Imperial Beach), who cut the ceremonial ribbon opening the facility.

"This facility will allow us to expand our manufacturing capabilities and deploy a high volume of CDMA infrastructure equipment to both our foreign and domestic customers," said Tom Bernard, president of Qualcomm's Wireless Infrastructure Products division.

Neighboring Qualcomm's corporate headquarters, the facility, located at 5751 Pacific Center Drive, was constructed in six months on 10.68 acres and provides over 177,000 square feet of manufacturing and office space, housing over 600 employees. Previously, the company's CDMA infrastructure manufacturing operations were housed in six different buildings in the San Diego area.

Designed specifically to manufacture CDMA equipment, the facility has a production capacity of over 400 CDMA base stations per month.

Qualcomm already has agreements to provide CDMA wireless infrastructure products in various parts of the world, including: the U.S., Russia, Canada and India.

Headquartered in San Diego, Qualcomm develops, manufactures, markets, licenses and operates advanced communications systems and products based on its proprietary digital wireless technologies. The Company's primary product areas are the OmniTRACS® system (a geostationary satellite-based, mobile communications system providing two-way data and position reporting services), CDMA wireless communications systems and products and, in conjunction with others, the development of the Globalstar™ low-earth-orbit (LEO) satellite communications system. Other Company products include the Eudora Pro™ electronic mail software, ASIC products, and communications equipment and systems for government and commercial customers worldwide.
