Qualcomm and Racal Instruments Sign IS-95 CDMA Test Equipment License Agreement

Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM) and Racal Instruments today announced that they have signed a royalty-bearing license agreement for test equipment based on Qualcomm's Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) IS-95 technology. The worldwide agreement allows Racal to design and develop a new line of digital radio test equipment to support the installation and maintenance of CDMA communications networks.

"CDMA is the logical extension to Racal's existing mobile terminal and basestation test equipment product lines," said Steve Altman, senior vice president and general manager of Qualcomm's Technology Transfer division. With the addition of CDMA, Racal can increase its technology portfolio, providing a significant potential market for Racal's test equipment aroundthe world."

"Qualcomm is committed to licensing CDMA to infrastructure, subscriber, ASIC and test equipment manufacturers to allow for the proliferation and expansion of CDMA around the globe," said Greg Maton, sales and marketing director, Racal Instruments. "As an established manufacturer of digital radio test systems, we have recognized the considerable potential provided by CDMA technology. CDMA offers higher quality, voice and datacommunications services and low power requirements."

Racal Instruments is a manufacturer of high performance test and measurement equipment that covers the spectrum from direct current (DC) to microwave. As well as designing and developing award winning digital radiotest equipment, Racal Instruments is able to offer a complete range of VXI bus instrumentation and a "turnkey" test system integration service. The company's equipment is used in a wide variety of applications in industries ranging from defense and aerospace to automotive and communications. Racal Instruments is part of the Racal Electronics Group that has some 100 operating companies worldwide and turnover in excess of UK 1 billion.
