Comcar Expands Contract for Qualcomm's OmniTRACS System

SAN DIEGO - Sept. 17, 1996 - Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ:QCOM) todayannounced that Auburndale, Fla.-based Comcar Industries, Inc. has signed acontract renewal for the purchase of additional OmniTRACS® mobilecommunications units. Several of Comcar's wholly-owned subsidiaries have beenequipped with OmniTRACS systems since 1993. This new contract will increasethe total number of units from 1,000 to 2,400.

Operating approximately 3,335 tractors, Comcar more than doubled its number ofOmniTRACS units with this recent purchase. "We had two primary reasons forincreasing our number of OmniTRACS systems - improved customer service anddriver retention," stated Mickey Foutz, senior vice president and chieffinancial officer of Comcar. "Our customers rely upon us to communicate withour trucks and to know the exact location of their shipments. Our drivers alsobenefit from this instant communication by saving time and earning more money."

After conducting a serious comparison between Qualcomm's system and two othercompeting mobile communication systems, Foutz stated that despite the fact thatthe OmniTRACS system was higher in cost, its extended features anduncompromising service quality made it the obvious choice. "Since there was adifference in hardware price, yet they all claimed to do the same thing, anextensive evaluation was necessary," said Foutz. "We decided on the OmniTRACSsystem because it proved all systems are not the same. Its sound technology, comprehensive interfacing capabilities, pre- and post-sale customer support andoverall value for the dollar are far superior to the competition. We alsoliked Qualcomm's partnership philosophy and commitment for the long run."

"Head-to-head comparisons with the competition are situations in which theOmniTRACS system and the entire Qualcomm organization excel," stated DaveHooper, vice president of Worldwide OmniTRACS Sales. "We know there is a costvariance between our hardware and the others, but the value gained from oursystem far exceeds the price difference when compared to the quality of ourproducts and customer service. We're glad Comcar views us as a partner and welook forward to serving them in the years to come."
