Superior Purchases Qualcomm's OmniTRACS System

SAN DIEGO - July 2, 1996 - Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ:QCOM) todayannounced that Illinois-based Superior Carriers has signed a multi-milliondollar contract to purchase 700 OmniTRACS® mobile communications units overthe next five years. Installation has already begun.

In operation for over fifty years, Superior currently operates over 600tractors and has successfully withstood the tests of time and change theindustry has experienced. The recent decision to forge down the mobilecommunications path was made to further enhance Superior's customer serviceofferings and improve its overall efficiency. "Although we purchased theOmniTRACS system to improve efficiency and communication," said BillO'Donnell, senior vice president of Superior, "our number one reason forpurchasing the system was to enable us to keep offering the topnotch, trueJIT service our customers have come to expect."

A tank bulk carrier hauling a broad range of dry and liquid commodities,Superior services a variety of customers that demand a delivery schedulewith a zero tolerance window. "Unfortunately JIT delivery has become oneof those overused and often misused words," said O'Donnell. "But for us,JIT means on time - not one hour, not even ten minutes late. It's likewith the airlines. If the plane is going to be late, the passengers wantto know about it. Actually, they demand to know about it. Our customersare the same way. Providing them with real-time feedback as to the statusof their load is imperative. And that's why we purchased the OmniTRACSsystem - to give our customers the best service possible."

"Quality customer service is a driving force in today's marketplace," saidDick Winkler, vice president of OmniTRACS Domestic Sales. "Furnishing ourcustomers with the tools they need to efficiently provide that qualityservice is what our business is all about. We look forward to outfittingSuperior Carriers with the competitive advantages they will gain frompurchasing the OmniTRACS system."
