FCC Approval for Increased Satellite Capacity Confirms Qualcomm's OmniTRACS Mobile Communications Growth

SAN DIEGO - July 11, 1996 - Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM) todayannounced that it has received approval from the Federal CommunicationsCommission (FCC) to increase its OmniTRACS® system license from 150,600 to250,600 OmniTRACS mobile communications units. Qualcomm's request toincrease its licensing capacity is attributed to the sales success andwidespread use of the OmniTRACS system, which has grown from 5,515 unitsinstalled in fiscal year 1989 to more than 165,000 units sold worldwidetoday.

"In today's competitive market, commercial fleets are realizing the needfor real-time satellite communications and fleet automation through the useof the OmniTRACS system," said John Sarto, vice president and generalmanager of Qualcomm's OmniTRACS division. "This grant, which nearlydoubles the system license, is another indication that the OmniTRACS systemhas proven to be a vital tool for the transportation industry. We are verypleased to receive this authorization from the FCC."

Qualcomm's family of OmniTRACS products include the OmniTRACS mobilecommunications and position reporting system; value-added applicationsoftware designed to enhance existing operations; business solutions andinformation management systems. Qualcomm has sold more than 165,000OmniTRACS units worldwide, with systems operating in the United States,Canada, Europe, Brazil, Mexico, Japan, Korea and Malaysia.
