Qualcomm Opens Offices in Singapore, Hong Kong and Korea

Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM) today announced the opening of three new offices in Singapore, Hong Kong and Korea. Staffed by teams of technical and business development professionals, the offices will serve as a base for operations, sales, marketing and support of the Company's Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) systems throughout the Asian region.

"Asia is rich with opportunities for CDMA wireless communications products and services," said Dr. Irwin M. Jacobs, chairman and CEO of Qualcomm. "In addition to being a large, relatively new market, Asia is becoming much more open to foreign business. We anticipate tremendous growth in countries like Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam and the Philippines. Our new offices demonstrate our continued commitment to provide CDMA products and services throughout Asia."

With commercial CDMA systems already operational in Hong Kong and Korea, and a CDMA wireless local loop system now being deployed in India, the technology is rapidly gaining momentum on the continent. Qualcomm already has offices in New Delhi and Beijing, and plans to continue to expand its resources throughout Asia.

"These new offices will serve as a valuable strategic foothold in Asia, allowing us to closely monitor the market, capitalize on new opportunities and provide more responsive service to our customers in the region," said Chris Simpson, senior vice president of CDMA Worldwide Sales. "It's a very exciting time to be here, witnessing such explosive economic growth and technological development first-hand."

CDMA combines the high quality and clarity of digital services with the speed and flexibility of rapid deployment. In addition, CDMA requires fewer base stations because it provides greater coverage area and 10-20 times more capacity than the current analog system. Fewer base stations translate into lower overall cost for both installation and maintenance. Qualcomm's technology forms the basis for digital wireless standard IS-95A.
