Qualcomm Adds AGC Amplifiers to ASIC Product Family

Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM) today announced the availability of two new Automatic Gain Control (AGC) amplifiers designed specifically for dual-mode Code Division Multiple Access/Frequency Modulation (CDMA/FM) cellular applications. The Q5500 Receive (Rx) and Q5505 Transmit (Tx) AGC amplifiers are designed to maintain consistent power levels over changing distances between subscriber handsets and base stations and in the presence of interference caused by multipath fading, terrain topology and environmental conditions in a cellular network.

Both devices provide linear gain control for Intermediate Frequencies (IF) up to 300 Megahertz (MHz) in general purpose AGC amplifier loops. Product specifications are compatible with the IS-95 standard for CDMA digital cellular communications.

Performance parameters, including Noise Figure and Third Order Intercept (IP3), remain exceptionally consistent over operating temperature and supply voltage variations. Wide dynamic range performance is also achieved with up to 90 decibels (dB) of variable gain control available.

In addition to digital and analog cellular systems, these AGC amplifiers are ideal for digital and analog cordless telephones, wireless Wide Area and Local Area Networks (WAN/LAN), personal communicators, Specialized Mobile Radios (SMR) and as general purpose linear IF amplifiers.Fabricated using a silicon Bi-polar Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor (BiCMOS) process, the Q5500 and Q5505 operate from a single +3.6 Volt power supply and are packaged in a standard 16-pin Shrink Small Outline Package(SSOP).

Pricing for the Q5500/Q5505 in 1,000 piece quantities is $2.95 per device. Samples are available now with production quantities available in August 1996.
