Qualcomm Brings Technology to San Diego Schools Through NetDay96

In an effort to support the technology needs of San Diego schools, Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM) will participate in NetDay96 today. NetDay96 is a state-wide effort to install the same wiring in schools that businesses use for their local area networks. Several Qualcomm employees will spend the day assisting schools around the county by wiring the campuses with high speed wire (fiber optic and Category 5 wire).

The network that will be installed will connect the school classrooms, labs and libraries. Thus, allowing the classrooms to communicate with all other locations on campus, as well as to access worldwide information resources such as the Internet. As part of the NetDay96 celebration, Qualcomm is also lending technical support to the San Diego Jewish Academy for its World Wide Web site (http://www.jewishinsandiego.org).

"We believe that an investment in education makes good sense for the community and good business sense for Qualcomm," said Dan Sullivan, senior vice president for Human Resources for Qualcomm. "Over the years, many interns and graduates from San Diego's high schools, colleges and universities have become Qualcomm employees. This is one of the many reasons we continue to actively support education."

In addition to NetDay96 activities, Qualcomm has ongoing programs to provide computer equipment and network support for Solana Santa Fe School (K-6), Scripps Ranch High School and La Jolla High School. The Company has donated computers to Solana Santa Fe School; telecommunications equipment for Scripps Ranch High School; and network computing equipment for La Jolla High School.

"In working with these schools, Qualcomm's goal is to supply computers and networks that will enable students to learn in a real world environment," said Tom Lafleur, vice president of engineering for Qualcomm. "It stands to reason that kids who are engaged in learning will ultimately benefit by being better prepared to meet the challenges of the workplace."

Headquartered in San Diego, Qualcomm develops, manufactures, markets, licenses and operates advanced communications systems and products based on its proprietary digital wireless technologies. The Company's primary product areas are the OmniTRACS® system (a geostationary satellite-based, mobile communications system providing two-way data and position reporting services), CDMA wireless communications systems and products and, in conjunction with others, the development of the Globalstar™ low-earth-orbit (LEO) satellite communications system.
