Regional Carrier Selects Qualcomm Technology

Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ:QCOM) announced that Gaston, S.C.-based G&P Trucking, Inc. has signed a multi-million dollar contract to purchase 500 OmniTRACS® satellite-based mobile communications systems. Installation of the initial 300 units has begun.

G&P is looking to the OmniTRACS system to increase asset utilization, reduce out-of-route miles and improve both dispatch and driver efficiency. "In order for us to accomplish our goals we recognized the need to capture and integrate significantly more real-time data from our equipment and drivers," said Clifton Parker, president of G&P. "The OmniTRACS system enables our company to be more efficient, handling more loads with a higher degree of customer and driver satisfaction. We chose Qualcomm because of its commitment to software and we believe the level of integration between the OmniTRACS system and our business system will ensure the highest payback possible."

A regional truckload carrier primarily servicing the southern and southeastern states G&P averages 280 mile routes. "Every hour is important in our business because we are always trying to add one more pick-up or delivery each day," said Parker. "Since time will be better spent with the OmniTRACS system, we expect our business to grow without increasing the number of dispatchers."

"As a regional carrier, G&P had some unique requirements," said John Sarto, vice president and general manager of Qualcomm's OmniTRACS division. "Our ability to integrate the data from the OmniTRACS system into the McCormick business systems software allows us to deliver an end-to-end solution. We can address G&P's requirements as a truly integrated solution, not just as stand-alone functions."

Qualcomm is the world leader in providing satellite communications, tracking and fleet management solutions to the trucking industry. With more than 145,000 OmniTRACS units sold worldwide, Qualcomm has systems operating in the United States, Canada, Europe, Brazil, Mexico, Japan and Malaysia.

Headquartered in San Diego, Qualcomm develops, manufactures, markets, licenses and operates advanced communications systems and products based on its proprietary digital wireless technologies. The company's primary product areas include the OmniTRACS system (a geostationary satellite-based mobile communications system providing two-way data and position reporting services), CDMA wireless communications systems and products and, in conjunction with others, the development of the Globalstar low-earth-orbit (LEO) satellite communications system. Other company products include the Eudora Pro? electronic mail software, VLSI components, and communications equipment and systems for government and commercial customers worldwide.
