Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. has long been a leader in connectivity, innovating to propel entire ecosystems forward. We’re doing it again with the FastConnect 7700 Mobile Connectivity System.

FastConnect 7700 accelerates the ubiquity of Wi-Fi 7 by bringing this cutting-edge technology to more mainstream phones. It’s a game-changer for device makers, bringing unprecedented high-speed connectivity to consumers and significantly outperforms Wi-Fi 7 performance of flagship devices like the iPhone 16 Pro.

Here’s everything you need to know about the FastConnect 7700 and the benefits of Wi-Fi 7.

Why should consumers care about Wi-Fi 7?

Wi-Fi 7 empowers everyone, from the average person to the technology enthusiast, with significant benefits. As our photography and video files become larger due to higher 4k and 8k quality, uploading to the cloud or external hard drives requires higher speeds for transferring data. For both casual and hardcore gamers, wire-like latency and lightning-fast speeds ensure smooth in-game performance, quick access to gameplay, and effortless handling of large game files, frequent expansions and updates. For the productivity pro using their phone for just about everything, seamlessly multitasking across applications is smooth and quick with high-performance Wi-Fi 7 connectivity.

How has Qualcomm led the march to Wi-Fi 7?

Qualcomm’s innovative approach to Wi-Fi technology has led to over 1000+ Wi-Fi 7 design wins across categories, including smartphones, routers, automotive, computers and more. This leadership has been visible in the premium tier smartphone segment via our FastConnect 7800 (the world’s first Wi-Fi 7 offering) and FastConnect 7900 (our second generation solution offering AI-enhanced Wi-Fi 7 performance and industry-leading proximity technology integration).

How does FastConnect 7700 change the game for device makers?

Today, Qualcomm Technologies unveiled FastConnect 7700, the latest mobile connectivity system packed with high-performance Wi-Fi 7, advanced proximity capabilities and support for Snapdragon Sound Technology Suite and Qualcomm Expanded Personal Area Network Technology (XPAN) for seamlessly connecting to nearby audio devices.

FastConnect 7700, with its rich array of premium features, is purpose-built with the intent to meet the market requirements of mid-tier smartphones. By integrating external components, FastConnect 7700 optimizes the printed circuit board (PCB) area and solution cost making Wi-Fi 7 more cost-effective and accessible than ever. FastConnect 7700 leverages key Wi-Fi 7 features that make it an essential upgrade from Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E designs, including Multi-Link Operation (MLO) to maximize the performance with Wi-Fi 7 Access Points (APs). These advancements enable smartphones to take on more demanding applications like mobile gaming and 4k and 8k videos emerging for consumers.

Why are 320MHz channels so important for FastConnect systems?

A fundamental feature across the entire FastConnect portfolio is support for 320MHz channel usage. Using wider channels in the high spectrum bands (versus 160MHz maximum channels with Wi-Fi 6/6E) drives faster performance, lower latency and sustained performance at range.

  • Pure Performance Boost: Enhanced data throughput allows for faster data transfer rates. This results in a substantial performance boost, making it ideal for bandwidth-intensive applications such as streaming high-definition videos and large file transfers
  • Latency Improvements: The increased bandwidth provided by 320MHz channels reduces network congestion and improves overall efficiency. This leads to lower latency, which is crucial for real-time applications like online gaming and video conferencing, ensuring a smoother and more responsive user experience.
  • Performance at Range Superiority: Wider channels enable better rate over range performance in 6GHz, meaning devices can maintain higher data rates even at greater distances from the access point.

Every FastConnect Wi-Fi 7 offering supports 320MHz channels, which can’t be said for our competitor’s offerings in every instance. For example, the iPhone 16 Pro features a competitor’s Wi-Fi 7 solution and does not support 320MHz channels, meaning performance more closely resembles a Wi-Fi 6E solution.

How does 320MHz Wi-Fi 7 performance compare to the competition?

To understand what that means for smartphone users, we tested our FastConnect Wi-Fi 7 systems against a competitor’s solution (in the iPhone 16 Pro) to show the performance difference. Currently, in a pure speed comparison, our FastConnect Wi-Fi 7 systems were able to reach up to 2 times faster peak Wi-Fi connectivity speeds than those of the iPhone 16 Pro.

When testing performance at range we found our FastConnect Wi-Fi 7 systems maintained 1 Gbps performance for an extra 10dB more range than the competitor's solution. In real scenarios, that could be maintaining high performance through an extra two walls in a house, or even going through an external wall and provide 1 Gbps performance throughout your backyard.

What does Wi-Fi 7 and 320MHz channels for everyone mean?

At its core, Wi-Fi 7 means wider channels, higher speed and lower latency. FastConnect 7700 accelerates the access to Wi-Fi 7, bringing these features to everyone. Whether you use your smartphone casually, game or are a productivity master, make sure your next purchase has the full-fledged features of Wi-Fi 7 including 320MHz.

What does FastConnect 7700 mean for the broader smartphone ecosystem?

Qualcomm Technologies' FastConnect 7700 is set to transform the Wi-Fi 7 landscape, bringing unparalleled connectivity and performance to mainstream smartphones. Smartphone developers and manufacturers can leverage this cutting-edge technology to deliver exceptional user experiences. With devices featuring FastConnect 7700, consumers will realize lightning-fast speeds, lower latency and superior connectivity. Consumers can expect to experience the power of FastConnect 7700 by the second half of this year. Together, we are embracing the future of mobile connectivity and leading the charge in the Wi-Fi 7 revolution.

In a test conducted by Qualcomm Technologies in Qualcomm Technologies labs, we compared available Wi-Fi 7 enabled smartphones and found that those equipped with FastConnect Wi-Fi 7 systems achieved peak Wi-Fi connectivity speeds up to twice as fast as competitors.
