Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon at Web Summit: GenAI is the new UI

How generative AI (GenAI)-powered "agents” will change the way you interact with the digital world

The rise of artificial intelligence (AI) opens the door to a vast array of possibilities. AI-powered agents will be the key to how we navigate and take advantage of those opportunities.

That’s the main takeaway from Qualcomm President and CEO Cristiano Amon, who spoke during a keynote address at the Web Summit conference in Lisbon. Amon laid out his vision of delivering on the promise of intelligent computing everywhere and how GenAI will serve as the new user interface for the computing devices all around us.

While Qualcomm Technologies is best known for being the brains behind premium smartphones, it has positioned its Snapdragon platforms as driving AI-powered premium experiences, from PCs to spatial computing devices to cars and, of course, smartphones.

“The way to think about Snapdragon is that it is where you are,” he said. “Snapdragon is between you and the screen, powering your experiences.”

Tying those intelligent devices powered by Snapdragon together with agentic AI-first experiences will empower more AI capabilities on devices like your smartphone or smart glasses. On-device AI enables increased immediacy, reliability, personalization and privacy.

Qualcomm Technologies has had a busy few months when it comes to its AI push. The Web Summit speech comes a few weeks after the company’s Snapdragon Summit conference, where it unveiled its Snapdragon 8 Elite platform for smartphones and Snapdragon Cockpit Elite and Snapdragon Ride platforms for vehicles — with AI at the center of all the announcements.

In June, Qualcomm Technologies was one of the key driving forces behind Microsoft’s Copilot+ PCs, a new class of AI-powered devices running on the Snapdragon X Elite and Snapdragon X Plus processors.
