Meet the first Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 powered smartphones with Qualcomm 3D Sonic Max

The latest smartphones with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform and 3D Sonic Max have just arrived. Qualcomm 3D Sonic Max is the world’s largest ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor for smartphones.

Using sound waves to read fingers, the Qualcomm 3D Sonic Max transmits an ultrasonic pulse against the fingers. The 3D pulse reflection creates a detailed 600mm2 reproduction of the scanned fingerprints for quick and higher security performance. It’s 17x bigger than its predecessor, Qualcomm 3D Sonic Sensor, and it enables new advanced security features and experiences including the ability to read two fingerprints simultaneously and to register one’s fingerprint with a single tap.

In December, Vivo announced two devices powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform and feature 3D Sonic Max — the X90 Pro+ and the iQOO 11 Pro. Both smartphones come with the world’s largest ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor — Qualcomm 3D Sonic Max.

The Vivo X90 Pro+ is the world's first smartphone powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform. It comes with a 6.78-inch, 120 Hz active-matrix organic light-emitting diode display capable of displaying HDR10+ videos packed with over a billion shades of color. The X90 Pro+ takes advantage of the ISP in Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, touting a huge 1-inch 50-megapixel (MP) main camera sensor and another 50-MP sensor with 2x zoom. The iQOO 11 Pro is the world's second smartphone to be powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and includes the Qualcomm 3D Sonic Max. It comes with a stunning 6.78-inch, 2K, 144Hz display capable of HDR10+. The iQOO 11 pro has three rear cameras — wide, ultrawide, and telephoto (50 MP + 50 MP + 13 MP) — is capable of 8K video and equipped with a 16 MP front camera. It packs a 4700mAh battery featuring impressive 120-watt wired fast charging, allowing it to reach 100% charge in just 25 minutes.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform powers both smartphones; it is intelligently engineered with groundbreaking AI across the board to enable truly extraordinary experiences. This AI marvel delivers accelerated performance, unparalleled connectivity, champion-level gameplay, ingenious capture, and unstoppable intelligence.

The Vivo X90 Pro+ is currently only available in China. Prices of the X90 Pro+ start from CNY6,499 (~$935). The iQOO 11 Pro was released on December 21st, 2022, with prices starting at CNY6,249 (~$899).
