New digital tools and increased online collaboration have become fundamental to how we live, work, and play and have created a greater need for mobile computing devices that deliver new levels of performance with incredible power efficiency (a.k.a. long battery life) and fast, reliable connectivity from virtually anywhere. This new era of productivity and entertainment also requires high-quality camera and audio for clear and crisp virtual presence, dedicated on-device AI processing to power natural interactions with incredible power efficiency, and enhanced security tools. At Snapdragon Summit 2022, we dive deep into how dedicated on-device AI will be critical to powering new premium experiences required by our customers to thrive in their everyday lives.

Traditionally, laptop performance has been measured by CPU and GPU, but on-device AI processing is now a critical third measure. The integrated Qualcomm Hexagon AI processor in Snapdragon compute platforms offloads compute intensive AI tasks from the CPU and GPU to dramatically increase performance on the device and deliver new user experiences. In fact, we're excited to share that with the pre-release Procyon AI Inference Benchmark, results show the Hexagon AI processor scores up to 5x faster than the competitor's CPU and up to 2.5x faster than the competitor's GPU.

Snapdragon AI leadership is not only delivering industry-changing performance but enhancing OS capabilities, transforming app experiences, and unlocking a new class of PCs.  Building on the capabilities we demonstrated with the launch of Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3, the Windows 11 2022 update from Microsoft now delivers intelligent video call features such as noise suppression, background blur, auto-framing, super-resolution, and eye contact.  By leveraging on-device neural processing, video calls can be richer and more immersive — ensuring that everyone can sound and look their best.  Snapdragon can deliver these experiences on the AI engine while saving resources on the CPU and GPU to enable incredible multi-tasking performance and long battery life.  This contrasts with traditional x86-based systems that primarily rely on CPU and GPU for this computationally complex modeling and as a result, can limit performance, battery life and the overall experience.  This is only the start of how Windows user experiences will be optimized by Snapdragon.

Our partners, like Adobe, are at the forefront of utilizing AI to enable creators. We’re thrilled that in 2023, key Adobe Creative Cloud applications will become native for Windows on Snapdragon, starting with Fresco and Acrobat. The past few years have yielded an incredible pace of change for digital creators and to meet the new demands users have for their products, Adobe is leveraging AI-processing capabilities of Snapdragon to help facilitate more personalized and intuitive experiences within their Creative Suite that pair with Adobe Sensei.  We can’t wait for our customers to experience this and other 3rd party applications tapping into the dedicated AI processing of Snapdragon compute platforms.
