The announcement of Ford’s new F-Series Super Duty truck powered by the Snapdragon® 5G Modem-RF from Qualcomm Technologies exemplifies just that – a successful collaboration that is paving the way for best-in-class user experiences and digitally transforming vehicles of the future.
Qualcomm Technologies, the leader in wireless technology and innovation, is driving future in-vehicle experiences with vault-like, superior, seamless connectivity. With this technology collaboration, we’re taking what we know best – 5G and wireless innovation – and helping Ford join the connected vehicle revolution. The vehicle as we know it is changing, and Qualcomm Technologies is providing a comprehensive set of technologies to support this automotive evolution.
More Enjoyable Driving with Qualcomm and Ford
Qualcomm Technologies is enabling a world where everyone and everything can be intelligently connected – including from the comfort of a Ford truck.
As the first pickup in the United States with embedded 5G capability1, Ford’s new Super Duty will be equipped with our Snapdragon® 5G Modem-RF to unlock the 5G capabilities needed to support connected and intelligent driving experiences2 that can keep getting better. When paired with the AT&T 5G network , the Super Duty can deliver faster, high quality navigation, mapping and music downloads while increasing the speed and reliability of Ford Power-Up software updates on the go to keep making the truck better over time.
“There are few vehicles more iconic and American than a Ford, and I am pleased that Qualcomm gets to play a part in bringing next level connectivity to the new Ford Super Duty,” said Jeff Arnold, VP, Product Management, Qualcomm Technologies. “As they come equipped with vault-like, superior 5G connectivity, Ford vehicles can support experiences that are more convenient and more personalized for drivers and passengers.”
For passengers, the Snapdragon 5G Auto Modem-RF paired with the AT&T 5G network will provide the new Ford Super Duty with efficient streaming capabilities and support Wi-Fi hotspots while on the go, enabling faster, high-quality video downloads and cloud gaming potential in the vehicle.
Snapdragon 5G Automotive Connected Platforms
Here at Qualcomm Technologies, we are the leaders of 5G technology, who are driving automotive innovation by accelerating 5G capabilities in connected vehicles. From 2G to 5G, our innovations have been connecting billions of people and devices for years while driving new connectivity standards for the entire industry.
Qualcomm’s 5G technology is creating new experiences, new industries, and enriching lives. Paired with AT&T 5G Network, the Snapdragon 5G Modem-RF is helping to drive fast speeds and low latency for richer and more immersive in-vehicle experiences for the new Super Duty, including:
- Faster video and audio streaming with higher quality
- Premium navigation and mapping
- Cloud-based, multi-player gaming potentially
- Ongoing software upgrades
In addition, Ford’s new Super Duty integrates multi-frequency Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) and Qualcomm® Dead Reckoning 3 to ensure highly accurate location positioning while on the go. This integrated precise positioning provides the lane-level accuracy required to optimize Super Duty’s Adaptive Cruise Control ADAS technology.
Beyond 5G Connectivity
By 2035, 5G is expected to enable over $2.4 trillion in economic output across the broader automotive sector – almost 20 percent of the projected global impact of 5G3.
With Qualcomm’s recently announced design-win pipeline at $30 billion, all of the technologies within the Snapdragon Auto Connectivity Platform, including the Snapdragon 5G Modem-RF, are uniquely positioned to support the automotive industry’s push to meet consumer demand for new connected driving experiences.
1 Connected service and features depend on AT&T network availability and compatible plan; 5G not available everywhere. Evolving technology/cellular networks/vehicle capability may limit functionality and prevent operation of connected features. Available Wi-Fi hotspot requires separate AT&T subscription.
