With fall on the horizon and kids heading back to school, many of us are thinking about how to keep our families safe when on the go. Functional, wearable devices such as trackers for kids, seniors, and pets, powered by the Snapdragon Wear 1300 platform, are revolutionizing the way we keep in step with the people and things we care about.
Our next-generation, global, single chipset connectivity solution, Snapdragon Wear 1300 is designed for use in small, wearable devices that require low-power and wide-area connectivity, including trackers, connected sports watches, and fitness monitors. Thanks to this groundbreaking platform, these accessories are not only small enough to wear, but are designed to be highly reliable, so consumers have peace of mind knowing that Snapdragon Wear-supported devices don’t compromise on performance.
Wearable trackers are becoming increasingly popular as kids head back to school. The KDDI Anshin Watcher kid tracker, the first commercially available product powered by Snapdragon Wear 1300, is a great example of this trend. Sized just 1.9 x 1.9 x 0.7 inches and 1.8 ounces, this tiny, IP55 waterproof device can be clipped to a child’s school bag or jacket, allowing parents to keep track of their youngster’s location or follow their travel route. With up to a month of battery life, parents can receive notifications when their child has arrived or departed from a specific location. More reliable and less expensive than having a child carry a smartphone, it’s also a great fit for those too young for phones. The KDDI tracker offers peace of mind to caregivers and a greater sense of independence for kids.
Similar wearable trackers are bound for the market, and the Snapdragon Wear 1300 platform is the perfect platform to use when building them.
Optimized for low-power, high performance and wide connectivity
Combining low-power, high-impact performance with best-in-class connectivity, the Snapdragon Wear 1300 platform is a multi-band, multi-mode solution with extended RF frequency support to support more than 23 global RF bands. Its high reliability, low latency, and voice support along with extended coverage and delay tolerance, make it a truly innovative modem solution optimized for ongoing use.
Compared to our earlier versions, it features up to 70 percent less power consumption in idle mode. This reduction along with an ultra-low system level cutoff voltage and advanced battery management means that the Snapdragon Wear 1300 can support extended battery life. It’s also 50 percent smaller than its predecessor despite having integrated flash, RAM, and RF front-end, which makes it especially cost effective.
Flexible, security rich, and loaded with apps
The Snapdragon Wear 1300 platform offers end-device design flexibility – using the latest generation (gen9) Qualcomm GNSS Engine, with support for both a dedicated GNSS antenna and a cellular + GNSS shared antenna – as well as security features, including Qualcomm Trusted Execution Environment (TEE). A FIPS certified cryptographic hardware platform, it has features for security-rich storage and key provisioning, debug security features, hardware crypto, and secure boot.
A variety of components support robust applications, including an ARM Cortex A7 processor, ThreadX and AliOS Things RTOSs, as well as a comprehensive set of native networking protocols. Additionally, Snapdragon Wear 1300 comes equipped with an LTE IoT SDK, with a comprehensive set of APIs to support additional applications and services.
With innovative features alongside exceptional hardware and software, the Snapdragon Wear 1300 joins the rest of Qualcomm Technologies’ portfolio of wearable platforms in bringing the premium experience consumers deserve. Once again, Qualcomm Technologies shows its commitment to bringing greater connectivity, communication, and computing to families and communities all over the world.
