Professional quality 4K HDR10+ video captured by a smartphone powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon [video]

When you have a smartphone powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon Mobile Platform, you can capture professional video quality. Snapdragon can even deliver features not yet found in professional cameras – including HDR10+ video capture. Video captured in 4K HDR10+ is as dazzling as it is sharp and packed with over a billion shades of color.

The Snapdragon Platform features dedicated technology cores for gaming, AI, audio, connectivity, and more. The dedicated core for camera is the Qualcomm Spectra ISP (Image Signal Processor), which for years has enabled Snapdragon to capture video in many 4K HDR formats while competitive ISPs have been mostly limited to only 4K video capture without HDR color.

4K HDR color features a wider palette of colors (Rec. 2020 color gamut) and many more shades of each color (10-bit color depth) – over a billion shades. 4K video with Standard Dynamic Range (SDR) is limited to only 16.7 million shades of color.

There are many HDR formats – the Qualcomm Spectra ISP can capture HDR in all of them. Hybrid Log-Gamma and HDR10 were earlier HDR formats. The Qualcomm Spectra ISP in Snapdragon 845 was the first mobile ISP to feature HDR video capture in these formats. Snapdragon 855 added support for the HDR10+ format and the Qualcomm Spectra in the Snapdragon 865 is the world’s first ISP to feature Dolby Vision for video capture.

Compared to HDR10, HDR10+ can offer even better image quality. The HDR10+ format features dynamic metadata that enables the ability to capture more details in each frame.

The video footage above was captured in sunny San Diego, California using a mix of the Samsung Galaxy S10s (Snapdragon 855) and the Samsung Galaxy Note 10s (Snapdragon 855+).

HDR10+ capture is also supported on Snapdragon 865. HDR10+ video is compatible with YouTube and Google Photos. You can backup your videos to Google Photos and upload it to YouTube so you can share on both services in HDR. You can watch these videos on HDR-capable displays including smartphones, tablets, and TVs.
