Always On, Always Connected PCs: Ecosystem Momentum and Snapdragon 5G [video]

The Always On, Always Connected* PC ecosystem, powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon compute platforms, is expanding at a rapid pace — driving innovation in the PC industry and bringing multi-day battery life**, lightning-fast connectivity, and modern, thin-and-light form factors to Windows 10 PCs. Software developers are now embracing this new category of devices and creating native applications and solutions for end users. With our announcement of the Snapdragon 8cx 5G Compute Platform, we are leading the PC ecosystem into the 5G era. The age of innovation in PCs is just beginning.

Ecosystem momentum continues

As the list of devices, OEMs, retailers, and operators supporting Windows on Snapdragon continues to grow, software developers are taking advantage of the opportunity and optimizing their applications to leverage the benefits of the new PC architecture.

Building on our ecosystem announcement made in December, there has been a wave of developers in the enterprise and security segment delivering applications that run natively on ARM.

For example, Cisco has ported its AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client, helping increase the mobility of employees using Snapdragon-powered Always On, Always Connected PCs. Mobile Iron, a major security provider in the mobile enterprise, has also ported its platform to ARM. This will ensure that companies have a range of solutions to secure their data in a mobile workforce.

The momentum with developers is global: AhnLab, INCA Internet Co., Ltd., and Raonsecure, the largest enterprise security platform providers in Korea, recently ported their platforms to run natively on ARM. And the Chinese tech giant Tencent ported both the Tencent Video and QQ Social applications to the platform.

Snapdragon leads the PC ecosystem to 5G

In addition to providing the computing power and connectivity to deliver compelling user experiences, the Snapdragon compute platform with the Qualcomm Snapdragon X55 5G Modem will be the world’s first commercial PC platform to deliver 5G connectivity. With 5G’s high speed, low latency, and high-capacity capabilities, PCs in home and enterprise settings will have access to cloud-based resources and capabilities that will revolutionize computing forever.

Qualcomm Technologies is excited to continue collaborating with a growing list of developers, OEMs, operators, and retailers to expand the Snapdragon-powered Windows 10 PC ecosystem and deliver a powerful Always On, Always Connected* PC experience.
