The just-announced Samsung Galaxy Note9, with its on-device artificial intelligence (AI), is a prime example of this.
Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 Mobile Platform, Samsung’s latest flagship phone processes AI at the edge, thanks to our Qualcomm AI Engine. The AI hardware is comprised of the Qualcomm Hexagon Vector Processor, Qualcomm Adreno GPU, and Qualcomm Kryo CPU, and its software runs on the Qualcomm Neural Processing SDK. Together, they support faster response times and more efficient power usage than our previous platforms when the Galaxy Note9 runs AI applications.
The Galaxy Note9 utilizes the AI Engine specifically for its camera, improving the photo experience through its built-in computer vision capabilities. After users capture their photos, the Galaxy Note9’s camera will recognize the subject and identify it into one of 20 categories. Then, the camera will improve the image based on its classification. Because the process occurs on-device and not in the cloud, enhanced photos are produced almost immediately, without any editing experience necessary.
With the Snapdragon 845 Mobile Platform powering it, the Galaxy Note9 taps our AI Engine to personalize consumers’ mobile experiences, ushering in next-generation features that enrich consumers’ everyday lives.
