From palm to pilot, the YING drone is flying high with smartphone DNA

Drones, or unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), are one of those rare technologies with the potential to revolutionize modern life. That’s not just a lot of hype, either. Drones for delivery are a hot topic, but drones have already proven incredibly successful in everything from archaeology to combating the effects of global deforestation. Not to mention that piloting drones is just plain fun—and it just became a whole lot easier to get your wings.

Just announced at CES 2016, YING, the first commercial drone incorporating the Qualcomm Snapdragon Flight, is an affordable and lightweight UAV that can be controlled right from your smartphone. Co-designed by ZEROTECH and Tencent, YING takes advantage of the advanced software and computational power of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor. That means that you’ve got cutting-edge mobile technologies like GPS, 4K Ultra HD capture, and robust connectivity for every barrel roll and loop-the-loop.

Of course, you don’t have to be an unmanned-aerial ace to have a good time. This innovative drone uses the Snapdragon supported 4K capture to “supersample” the video image, providing stabilized, corrected video, and picture recording that can be directly streamed or uploaded at 1080p, or at 720p in first-person view (FPV) to share your experiences in real-time. If you thought Snapdragon processors were impressive in your pocket, just wait till you’ve got them airborne. There’s no doubt that YING is just about the coolest selfie camera on the block—or above it.

If you’re at CES 2016, you can check out the YING and other drones and robotics at the Qualcomm Technologies Booth #25824 in South Hall.
