Behind the Scenes with Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes-Benz Stars and Cars
Mercedes-Benz held its annual Stars and Cars 2015 celebration at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Stuttgart, Germany on December 12. We invited MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team Driver and triple World Champion Lewis Hamilton to take us behind the scenes of the event.
This season’s been a blast and I’ve been hugely grateful to be part of a winning team for the second season in a row. To celebrate everything we achieved in 2015, Mercedes-Benz hosted a phenomenal Stars and Cars event in the Stuttgart arena in front of 35,000 fans. Here’s a look at the event from my PoV.
Origins. This year, I’ve traveled to Australia, Abu Dhabi, Brazil...but bringing it back to Mercedes’ home in Stuttgart in Germany capped a great season.
History. I’ve been racing Mercedes-Benz powered Formula 1 cars since 2007; One of the things that has always stuck with me is Mercedes’ attention to detail—their historical attention to detail. Timeless, classic vehicles showcase their history and this tradition remains strong today; this attention to detail can be seen in their relationship with technology partners, like Qualcomm Technologies.
Preparation. This event isn’t a race; there’s no pressure, no competition. But the spirit that drives innovation is the same spirit that’s drives me when I get behind the wheel—preparation, practice, perfection. Well before the first fan arrives, before the lights are fixed, I practice. And because the team shares this approach, we succeed when all parts of the organization work together.
Teamwork. It’s easy to put the focus on the driver, but it’s really about the team. And not only my immediate Mercedes team, but the wider reach of our essential partnerships with organizations like Qualcomm Technologies. Thanks to them, my car’s data at the track is transmitted via Wi-Fi rather than through a cable, which means I get to spend more time out on track practicing.
Wrap-up. As I reflect on this year, and my career as a driver, I’m thankful. Not only for my success but for the support of my fans, my sponsors, Mercedes-Benz, and partners like Qualcomm Technologies. Thanks for following me!
