San Diego Film Festival announces Qualcomm 4K Mobile Challenge winner

Congratulations to Nathan and Andrew Garcia, winners of the Qualcomm 4K Mobile Challenge at this year’s San Diego Film Festival. The competition was a chance for filmmakers from across the country to show off their creative talents through the lens of a Motorola DROID Turbo, all while demonstrating the benefits of recording your videos in 4K Ultra HD. The winning film did just that.

“The film speaks for itself,” explained Tonya Mantooth, executive vice president and director of programming for the San Diego Film Festival. “With truly stunning visuals and an original story, Nathan and Andrew’s film captured the essence of our competition and makes us all very excited to see what they create in the future.”

Their digital short, “The Watchman,” is a stunning example of just how far advancements in mobile technology have expanded creative possibilities for makers everywhere. You can watch it here—be sure to select the 4K quality setting in the player:

The brothers’ entry was one of 15 finalists to receive a brand new Motorola DROID Turbo to create his 4K masterpiece. Powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor, this camera disguised as a smartphone is an all-encompassing entertainment device that allows its users to capture video in 4K, and then play back on a super-sharp Quad HD display. Layer that on top of outstanding battery life (with Turbo Charging supported by Qualcomm Quick Charge technology) and 22-megapixel photo support, and you have one powerful device with the potential to capture breathtaking visuals.

Along with taking home a brand new Droid Turbo, Andrew and Nathan were also awarded a $5,000 cash prize, and had their film shown at a VIP screening in San Diego. Notably, Andrew’s short “Onward” was a runner-up winner in our first 4K Contest, earlier this year.
