Qualcomm supports the LGBT community at the San Diego Pride Parade

The San Diego Pride Parade is always a fun event to be part of, and this past weekend was even more special! The San Diego LGBT community celebrated this day knowing that, for the first time in history of this country, same-sex couples have the right to legally get married and have it recognized in all 50 states, which is a huge advancement for our society.

This made it particularly exciting to march with more than 200 Qualcomm employees, friends and family members in solidarity with the LGBT community, and also to have several of our top executives, including Qualcomm’s CEO, Steve Mollenkopf and his family, walk with us. Moreover, colleagues flew in from other cities just to celebrate with the rest of the Qualcomm community in San Diego.

Qualcomm has participated in the San Diego Pride Parade for the past 17 years. Furthermore, we are proud to be listed as a 100 percent employer on HRC’s Corporate Equality Index (CEI) and to be recognized as a “Best Place to Work for LGBT Equality.” Additionally, Qualcomm provided legal support through the submission of an amicus brief to the Supreme Court arguing that diversity and inclusion strengthens our business and that prohibitions on same-sex marriage impose a significant burden on our employees.

I’m extremely proud to volunteer as the president of eQuality, the Qualcomm employee network that focuses on supporting LGBT employees and educating allies. It is truly an honor to work for a company like Qualcomm, where inclusion and diversity are honored, celebrated and cultivated.
